I've been watching Whitey since he joined the Dogs. Can't help but love the guy, he brings a lot of character to the game and team. I watched the game against Ottawa and, unless he had a huge turnaround last night, where he played just under 6 minutes, I have trouble understanding the love affair the Habs fans have with him. He is always a step and a half behind the play and I saw no difference against Ottawa. I read he had 6 hits, I missed 5 of them. We have two players for sure that bring better hockey skills to the table, Wyman and Engquist, who just got sent down. Wyman has way more speed, will go into the corners and grind the for puck and has way better stats than Whitey. As for him willing to drop the gloves, in Hamilton he loses more than he wins. Against Ottawa he gets into a fight with Lee, not a real heavy weight and when the Habs were up 6-1. Hey if it's just grittiness and fighting your looking for I can give you an argument for Henry. He can play the wing, he's just a fast as Whitey, has way more hockey sense and is a hell of a lot tougher.

I was wondering if someone was back from injury or if they wanted Pyatt back in to kill of the thousands of penalties we get but yeah...That kind of makes more sense.

Or cap-related demotion? Because there's no point in keeping him up while the team is not playing.

The habs can still make the Playoffs, but they won't win anything big without more muscle and grit in the line up (a real sniper would not hurt too...)

Only for cap wise.

The more you keep a player, the more you need to pay him.

So, White doesn't count on the salary cap, which means that Gauthier has more space on the cap.

I guess he showed too much physical play and toughness for JM's liking.

Agree with most that White's physical presence will be necessary going forward. We have little of what he brings right now...

I agree that more physical presence wouldn't hurt but you guys are overblowing that angle imo.

Physical presence doesn't help when you spend half the game in the box. We didn't lose last night because of a lack of physical presence. We were doing fine in the first until we handed them the game.

Yup, massively overblown especially with Phillie. Their game is 90% skill and speed and 10% playing a scrappy game with a bit of intimidation.

Yup I'm sure the All-Star break had nothing to do with it

Can fight, gritty, not sure if he has the wheels to be long term NHLer. Maybe as an extra forward against tougher teams

I am sure this is cap related.

However, White didn't look anything like the guy from camp or even last season. It was only a couple games and by no means should he be written off, but he got the call based on history, not current performance and that showed in this callup.

The guy brings about as much as Travis Moen does, but without the experience and defensive awareness (that you get through experience). If he's lucky, he'll one day be like Moen.

They make this move because of the All star break. We have only 12 forwards now so I'm pretty sure they will recall him after the break

They better call him back after the All-star break.

We need some physical presence in our lineup.

His speed or lack thereof is concerning.

This league is getting faster every year and he can carely keep up now.

I like what he brings to the table, but I doubt he'll be able to stick with the big club.

Not sure but I believe they have their break as well. With Halpern back we would have 2 extra forwards if White stays. Too bad cause I really like White, hopefully next year there will be a full time spot for him

No, we have one extra.

Last night Halpern and White played, we only scratched one forward (Pyatt).

I think it is both

Send him down so he can play for the week the Habs arent and they save that weeks worth of cap space

They probably will. Not sure why they didn't send Desharnais down too.

Human decency, I expect.

Montreal has never micromanaged the cap at the expense of player respect.

Desharnais was told by management he's here for the season and to seek a place to live. It would be kind of rude to then assign him to the AHL for cap reasons.
