I agree with the above posts he is great for the fourth line, more offensively talented then betts, powe and shelley. He also pisses off the opposing team more then anyone on our team, causing many unnecessary penalties against the opposition. If he can learn to stay on the line and have a positive penalty drawn/taken ratio he could be a tremendous asset in the playoffs

Last year, he was near the top in the NHL I think in this statistic. He drew about twice as many minors as he took. He's useful, despite what most fans say.

I agree. He's pretty versatile too. He can be a 4th line energy guy and also take a regular shift and pop in the odd goal, sometimes big ones. He pays attention to defense. He can play either wing effectively.

powe-betts-carcillo is a line you could roll consistently with the top 3 come playoff time, for sure. the boost provided when one of these guys scores has got to be huge for the team. question is...what do you do if lappy gets healthy? does carcillo, powe, or shelley get shafted?

edit: should probably include nodl in that regard as well.

If Lappy were able to play, enjoy the game from the Pressbox Shelley.

Lappy-Betts-Carcillo was an awesome 4th line.

Yeah, this is a pretty useless stat. I'd dress Carcillo most nights if I were the coach, although to be fair Shelley has had a decent couple of games lately. Carcillo would drive me nuts behind the bench though... A fourth line of Carcillo-Betts-Nödl/Powe would be sweet in the playoffs.

That he pays attention to defense is a bit of an exaggeration though. I think part of the reason he sits is because Shelley is actually more responsible defensively.

but do you play carcillo over powe/nodl? both guys are penalty killers and have a great defensive upside. carcillo gets under the other team's skin but will never play the "big" minutes

The 10-minute misconduct getting called was hilarious though. Usually you need to actually do something rather than just act like a fool to essentially be ejected from a game.

It'd be nice if that 15-20 goal scorer some people promised showed up though.
Except that he draws more penalties then he takes.

Anyhow, I don't think those stats mean anything, but Carcillo is a quality bottom six NHL player and he was part of the best fourth line in hockey last season. He's also better then Shelley at the very least. I'd rather have him in the lineup then out and, even as it is, he's a hell of a lot better of an extra forward then most, if not all, teams have.

I think he gets a lot of undeserved hate though from pretty much everyone. The refs don't treat him fairly because of his reputation, fans of other teams hate him because he's a pest, and even Philly fans are pretty rough on him.

No, I wouldn't. Powe and Nodl are better than Carcillo defensively, and while both can take penalties, the stripes aren't watching them like hawks.

I'm pretty sure we had a similar run with Powe last year.

I wouldn't mind seeing Nodl sit and putting Carcillo with JVR and Richards

In a perfect world, Carcillo is nowhere near a scoring line, and especially not in the Flyers' version of a shutdown line like Richards' line is this year.

I like that idea. Carbomb is a good chip to improve our forward depth. Homer is not done tinkering with this team yet. You just know he is going to tweak it somewhat for the playoff run.

Like others have probably said, I'd like to see Carcillo in over Shelley when the other team isn't icing a goon.

Same, like it or not he's part of the team's personality. They win with skill, but still bring a lot of toughness. I do wish the refs weren't such haters, but what can you do.
