hes off our roster for 48 hours. I will believe it when I see it if hes sent to the minors or claimed by another team.

Agreed. Plus, it indicates Holmgren is serious about making a move. Worst-case scenario is that Walker clears waivers, Holmgren doesn't find a deal he likes, and Walker remains with the club, thereby remaining 8 Dmen deep for the playoffs.

Well, no, that isn't worst-case scenario, which is that Holmgren is clearing room to bring back Leighton, which would just make me .

Why waive him now to make room for a deadline deal? You've got plenty of time to do that if need be and he can cover you in case of injury. Doesn't this signal something imminent? What am I missing?

Is there any way possible (trade) we can take on Gagne's salary and try to get him back?

I have always been wondering what the bonus conditions are.

We have JVR, Nodl, O'Donnell and Bobo, and I have no idea how close they are to getting their bonuses or if they have already gotten them. (Excluding signing bonuses)

Every dollar you don't spend adds up at the trade deadline when you want to make a trade.

Waiving him earlier opens more cap room. If you have more salary open earlier, you can get a player with a greater cap hit than Walker later on. This is because cap hit for a team is calculated by
(Cap hit per year / 186) * days on active roster

186 is the number of days a player is active when he plays all the games of a team.

For example, Eric Wellwoods cap hit, if he is not called up again this year, is a bit under $ 37,500. His annual cap hit is $ 580k, but he's only been on the active roster for 12 days.

O'Donnell I think was games played, which having played each one I'd assume he's going to get.

I'm honestly shocked they waived Walker. The Flyers don't have to send him to the Phantoms if he clears and it's unlikely anyone will claim him, given he's only played a handful of games in the last year.

Hopefully this a a pre-cursor for a move to acquire a 7th defenseman, since I'm not comfortable with Bartulis being the first guy in for an injury replacement this season. All rumours point to a move for a forward, though.

They do if you go over the cap because of them.

You can move bonuses to the following season, if you can't fit them under the cap for the current season.

Only if you didn't have room in the year of the bonus. But I think that rule changes next year.

I am assuming Bobo has a similar bonus setup; such as number of starts or wtv.

While JVR and Nodl would more than likely be performance bonuses, but I have yet to find any info on what the conditions are.

Thank you Jeebus.

Nice to see Holmgren undoing the mistakes he made over the summer.

just about to post the same thing. If he is sent down they no doubt will need to acquire another dman as no way do i see them going into the playoffs with Bart as the #7.

Best case scenario: Someone claims him now.

2nd best case scenario: He refuses to report to Adirondack, and his contract gets voided (I can hope, can't I?)

Seriously, Walker's is the worst contract on the team, in my opinion. It's almost entirely unmovable. I know a lot (most? all?) of people hate Shelly, and I'm not a huge fan either, but by all accounts, he seems to be really loved in the locker room. I think having Shelly AND Carcillo is overkill though.

I doubt it. If Walker is not claimed, then his status is brought back onto the roster at the end of the season, which once again we wouldn't be allowed to go over the cap.

It gets messy, so I can be more than likely wrong.

Yeah, could be that too.

Some obscure thing called "tagging" which Bob McKenzie admitted he didn't even understand.
