Sounds like NHL or RUSS for him atm. No BPort for him.

Petrov came to rookie camp and seemed surprised by how much he enjoyed playing on LI.I think if hadn't been under contract to his KHL team last summer,he'd have signed with the isles.

Now he's been traded to another KHL team, gotten more playing time. With only 1 yr left on his KHL contract,I just hope he doesn't sign an extension.

I'm not worried about that. I believe this kid knows he has to check out things in North America.

He'll come over when his contract there is finished. I'm fairly certain about that.

I think he knows (or at least his agent will know) that if he goes into 2013 without a contract he has a ton of leverage in Russia.

Honestly, if Garth is smart, he gives the kid an NHL spot regardless.

Sometimes, you've just got to bend.

If that's what it takes to eyeball this kid and get him, here, you do it.

Next step is to take him into little Russia in Manhattan, show him a few girls, get him wasted, and lock him up to a Frans Nielsen-like contract w/a 2 way clause.

even if he made the team, wouldnt we have to buy out his last year of his KHL contract....from all indications he looked real good in camp....

No - We CANNOT buyout the contract or give him any type of money to do so. If he's going to get out of the NHL, he's got to do it on his own...Which is just one of the reasons why I think we don't see Petrov here until Fall 2012 the earliest.

Not if he doesn't deserve it. If he wins a spot fair & square then that's one thing. But I don't want to Bailey him and have him turn into a 3rd line player with a questionable compete level.

He will have to sign an ELC if he comes over, so there's no way he can expect to play in the big league from day one. Most likely he'll need some seasoning in Bport but his KHL experience will be very useful nonetheless.

they gave Sim a 1 way deal, initially. They gave Tamby the same, Parenteau one - seriously, if they think he can play, then why not. It's not like he'll be making $2MM or something outrageous.

At rookie camp, there's was talk about him being NHL ready. If he attended a full camp, he probably would have WON A JOB OUTRIGHT - but that's the GM/Coach's call.

That's probably a calculated risk I'd take.

Much better than signing Ales Kotalik or Frolov to a three year deal !

If the team plans to aim higher and expect more, then i could care less about Frolov or Petrov. I'd take Brad Richards and Milan Hejduk as UFAs.
