Toronto to make a big move (or moves?)

Was listening to him talk and he said that he belives that Burke and company have some big moves in store he said that Brian Burke will do WHATEVER it takes to make the Leafs a playoff team/contender next year. He said we are in the Market for a top line C as top line LW and a legit #1 goalie according to Dreger we have the assets to get this done.

so Leaf fans if we are to take Dreger at his word and he is one of most connected guys in the business do you expect Kadri and/or our 2012 1st to be on the block? I think it's a damn good possibilty.

Those are the only assets that come to mind that would bring the kind of confidence to land an entire top line and starting goaltender.

Well the leafs are in the east. All it takes to make the playoffs in that conference is to get close to winning 50% of your games.

I'd be pretty pissed off if Burke traded our first next year for anything short of a kings ransom, I just can't see how he could take that risk.

I can see the teams right now lining up to give up a top six forward and a number one center for guys like Beauchemin and Versteeg. Pretty sure his comments can be explained like this:

1. Little to no trade whispers right now. (read: Dreger trying to stay relevant)

2. TSN has a big show coming up on the 28th of February and there is an entire fan-base of Leaf fans to trick into thinking they could pull a team-changing blockbuster. Imagine missing out on that audience.

Well they're not even close to that right now, having won 19 of 49 thus far.

Chances of a complete turnaround in the final 33 games of the season seem really slim to me.

Looks like you can wave goodbye to Kadri.

Nothing would make me happier than to watch Burke mortgage more of the Leafs future.

based upon something I heard from a person I used to play hockey with and works for an nhl team(not the leafs)

Burke is trying to make moves around the all star game and is talking with all teams to see if they can get a deal done

don't know if it is to make the leafs a playoff team next year--but he is talking to teams.

But Burke always talks to teams(accepts one team who he only has Nonis talk to) about what is going on

I don't think there is a chance at all that Burke will have his legacy be trading a top 10 pick four years in a row.

1. Kadri
2. Seguin
3. 2011
4. 2012

That will never happen. He will trade Kessel before he gives up the 2012 or Kadri.

What I find interesting is the #1 goalie comment....so, the way I read that:

So, sounds Giggy's time is done here. Also sounds like they don't have confidence with Gus being the number one next year.

If what Dreger is true, I hope Burke doesn't start mortgaging 2012 first, Kadri, ect just to get good "right now"-I was honestly thinking he was going to be smart enough to keep the 2012 and play next year out and the chips fall where they may. Mind I was wrong about Wilson's time too.

I have a very bad feeling about things for the Leafs, and I hope I'm wrong. I respected Burke when he came here-and I gave him pass on the Kessel trade as a mistake and that's it (though Kessel is talented)-but if gets desperate and gets stupid-I'm going to come to the conclusion that whatever he's done in the past-these potential actions would tell me he really has been left behind by the more modern NHL.

And I think traded the 2012 pick and then missing the playoffs next year-that would be the final straw among even the more casual fans.

It seems even more unlikely when you consider the rate that Florida and Buffalo are playing at.

Kaberle, Versteeg and Giguere to San Jose for Niemi, Setoguchi, McGinn and Huskins.

Sharks vastly improve their blueline, the Leafs get a young forward in Setoguchi who can potentially be a sniper.

Good God.

Any future this team has is doomed.

It sounds like Burke is going to mortgage the future to fill holes in the present, which is never a good idea when the team is as bad as it is.

It really is hell being a Leaf fan.

I think from Burke's position, it makes sense to try swinging 1 or 2 big trades and try making a push for the playoffs. If he didn't and Boston gets another top 5 pick, the Kessel trade is going to look a hell of a lot worse and more people will be calling for his head. If we barely make or miss the playoffs, things won't look nearly as bad and it shows an effort on his part.

Trading Kadri and their 1st in 2012 doesn't make sense. He still has some other players to move like Kaberle, Beauchemin, Versteeg. If he trades Kadri and another 1st, then he ain't really making the playoffs in the next 10 years

Someone tell Burke the goal is to win the cup, not simply make the playoffs.
