But yeah, the only times they seem to get the games into OT, they win in the SO.
L.A. is 5-0 in shootouts this year.

So really, if they lost more shootouts, their loser point totals wouldn't actually be that bad.

No. What people are referring to with the "loser point" is all those games that have been tied with 5 to go, only to have the opposing team score. Thus, getting 0 points instead of the guaranteed 1.

They need to get more regulation games to the shootout so Quick can dominate them and the team can get the bonus points. I haven't had time to study it, but the Kings won quite a few shootouts last season.

This is it, ppl complain about the loser pts that other teams have, but the Kings numbers are low because they are good at SO's and I find them to be good in OT as well, though they haven't converted nearly as successfully as they have played.

THey did as did Phoenix. The Kings have also blown a handful of games with under 5mins remaining.

Thanks. So 8 loser points, where now they only have 1. They definitely need to win their share in regulation and get some of the ones they have been losing in regulation into the OT.

FYI the NBA's contracts are guaranteed, there are instances where the final year of a deal is not but that is more than offset by the fact that buyouts are generally 90% or more of the remaining contract where the NHL is 66.7%. Major League Baseball also has guaranteed contracts.
So when NBA teams release players they still have to pay them 90% of their remaining deal?

I don't see why he can't get Gionta money, and that's $5 million per. Williams is worth at least $4-$4.5 million per, unless he takes a pay cut to go to a place he really wants.

I hope so, but I think he'll be a hard one to nail down to a term and dollar figure considering his injury history.

I think it definitely will be a tough signing.. The Kings will bring up his injury history and Williams' camp will bring up his production numbers in comparison to what others with the same stats make.

Seeing Williams and Quick celebrate together at the end of the shootout last night was awesome.. Justin plays his heart out when hes there and you cant deny the experience hes had with his name being engraved on the Stanley Cup..

I find myself yelling at cussing at my TV plenty of times when Williams loses the puck and is pushed around in true Mr. Glass fashion.. but man.. it would really hurt to see him go.. Hes a great player and locker room guy to have.

True, but there is also a reason why he isn't a GM somewhere in the league too...

He's basically the ultimate fantasy GM, he knows what he's talking about but if he was put into a position to do anything about it, he'd just go crazy trying to have Ovechkin, Crosby, and Malkin on the same line and end up with three 1st round picks in every draft year...

IMO this is THE huge reason they're in their current position. As others have said, those tie games where they give one up in the last 5 min then lose in regulation. Get those games to OT, even if they lose, and they're in the playoff picture now.

I don't know off hand but I'd say not many... The Kings are actually better in the 3rd period than in the second period by a stats breakdown.

1st period: GF-46 GA 36
2nd period: GF-46 GA-53
3rd period: GF-45 GA-34

The Kings are falling behind in the 2nd period and just aren't recovering and tieing games back up in the 3rd... The Kings are actually 28th in the league in Goals Against in the 3rd period so I can't see how it's possible they are losing games in the last 5 minutes when they give up so few goals in that time.

I've been to 2.

vs Chicago on 1/3(just over 5 to go).
@ St. Louis 6:47 to go(close enough).
@ St. Louis on 12/16, 2:53 to go.
vs Columbus on 11/17, 3:12 to go.

So theirs at least 4 lost points.

The Chicago game was already 2-1 Chicago when the goal was scored, so no lost points since the game wasn't going into overtime anyways...
So 3 points lost.

Agreed 100%. I think the ideal solution would be for Williams to understand managements concern on giving a long term contract and be willing to sign for one year, and vice versa for management to agree he's worth a raise and pay him his worth on a one year deal. Maybe a 1 year extension at $4.5 - $5 million?

-a top coach in the western conference thought they had a legitimate chance to win the Cup after the first month of the season.

Not sure what the "ouch" was about.

BTW.. he talks about the Kings w/ about 3 mins left int he interview.

He said we are disappointing, frustrating and that we need to get our act together because we have the defense, goaltending and firepower to be much better than we are.

Also that its hard to say if Murray's job is in jeopardy.

I think the ouch was the bit about how the rebuild has been sold for 4 or 5 years to us fans and that its time to step up in a way that we haven't stepped up yet.
