The Guardian Project: The Florida Panther

http://panthers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=550638

He looks cool...

"The Panther is all South Beach fun and youthful exuberance. What would you expect from a character that routinely drinks from the fountain of youth? The other Guardians are constantly on him to take things a little more seriously, but to no avail. He’s the one used to spending his days hanging out at the beach and nights hitting up the hottest clubs in the world. The Panther is half man/half panther and is one of only two Guardians with feline powers. He has night vision, he has super agility and powerful legs and arms that allow him to jump incredible distances. He has razor sharp gold tipped claws that can slash through 6-inch thick metal walls. The natural ability of a panther to be able to blend into his surroundings making him almost invisible is the inspiration for one of the most unique Guardian talents."

One of the best out of the Guardian project !

I suspect there will be some kind of small movie or something like that shown at the All-Star game on January 30th...

I'm actually looking forward to whatever this is going to be. Stan Lee should make this really cool. He certainly has a big task on his hands, how's he gonna incorporate 30 teams?

Gold is a great choice for claws... if you want them to be expensive and useless... like Olesz.

I have known about this initiative for a while since when I was interning with the Bolts last summer, and I wasn't too sold on it.

And still, I'm not. I don't see how this will increase revenues, and frankly I'm surprised this got greenlit. Could you see this happening in the NBA? I think this will disappear in no more than a season or two.

That said, The Panther was actually much better than what I was expecting.

ESPN Magazine much? The NBA did almost exactly the same thing at the start of the season.

Yeah, but was that the NBA's idea or the magazine's? (I actually have that issue in my bathroom.)

The NBA thing was way more tongue-in-cheek than this, this takes itself WAYYYYYY too seriously, I think. Plus, it actually had to do with the players in an often satirical way (Yao getting admantium grafted to his skeleton because of the injuries), not just a random super with a NHL crest slapped on it's chest.

But yeah, good point- I missed that.

If it controls the minds of its fan base, why doesn't it use that power to make us buy season tickets? Too busy enjoying the SFL night life and golfing?

Edit" The sabre is pretty bad, looks like Aquaman's evil brother from the institution. Several of the others look like batman. I do like that the Maple Leaf's super power is "mass manipulation" though. The bruin is the only one I really like.

I don't know a single person who gets ESPN Magazine, you kinda make it sound like it's as available as the channel. Only time I've seen it is when I'm getting my tires replaced and it's in the shop's waiting room.

The natural ability of the Florida Panther is to make himself almost completely invisible to the rest of the hockey world.

Well the person I was talking to gets it. And how widely available it is has no impact on whether or not the NBA would ever do something like The Guardian Project, because it was extremely similar.

Anyway, apparently there was a previous thread and the current one in the NHL forum was started just before the Red Wing was unveiled, but there are some pretty awesome comments about each one released since, IMO. Worth a read.

Stan Lee missed the boat on this one. We already had a Guardian:

I don't know who made this, but he/she is a genius. Love the subtle "Can he save us? Nope, he can't save us." graphic, too.
