Yeah, this is why I don't get why there is all this talk about the Canes. They are essentially a playoff team as of now when you account for games in hand. They are in a position to be buyers as of now, not sellers. At the very least you would expect 'em to stand pat and see what happens.

Certainly not selling off guys that are playing 17+ minutes a night for 'em.

I can't see the Canes selling. They look like the front-runners for the 8th playoffs pot.

If Cole isn't available, how about Andrew Brunette? Cap hit is $2,333,333 expiring at the end of the season.

I'd actually prefer Brunnette but so would a lot of teams. And the Wild are in the playoff hunt

Cole is a player I've always wanted to see come to the Flyers, he would be a very welcome addition.

depends on what is being offered. They know realisticly they are not going to win a cup with or without cole. So if they can grab a decent player to fill in the lineup now and some picks or porspects they might move him. You hope shooter shows the recent patience that he has when he wants to make a deal.

Carolina might very well become sellers come deadline time. I'm not so sure their hot streak will continue much longer. If they decide to sell, I would be interested in Cole for sure, I've always been a big fan of him.

As it stands right now, however, I don't think they'll be that interested in dealing him unless someone really overpays for him.

By this I take it you mean the fanbase of the team that deals for him will opt to be euthanized?

I agree, and it would be good strategy for Holmgren to establish the cost of a few choice players on borderline playoff teams. A lot can change very quickly, and if the line of communication is open, it makes it that much easier to see what is feasible.

The thing about Cole is that, on the level of need, I guess I'm getting tunnel vision on the open spot being alongside Richards, and by extension a strong two-way player would be required. If Richards' line is to be used against the opposition's top offensive line -- which may only play out in my own head -- Holmgren would be looking for a defensively-minded forward who can hit open nets fairly regularly on the rush. Is Cole a 3-zone player?

As strange as it may sound, at this point it's not about what we need, because this team has no desperate need. I see Cole as an interesting target because he's what has been proven to be valuable in the playoffs. Size upfront, loads of speed, grit and character.

He played 2 games in the playoffs, recorded zero points and zero PIMs. He was hurt at the end of that year.

Silly flountown. Don't you know that co-existence of Lupul and Pronger on a single roster would tear apart the time-space continuum?

I like Zherdev in that he brings a dangling threat on the ice that keeps the defense honest, but realistically he is not a team player and that's not what wins PLAYOFF games. He is fun to watch tho.

Cole for Zherdev? Yes please.

I'd also like Andrew Brunette obviously.

What are the rules regarding getting Leighton on the playoff roster? I know the cap rules pretty well, but never looked up the playoff roster rules. I assume the Flyers would have to run the risk of re-calling him and losing him and still paying half his salary.

Frank seems to think you can bring people on the playoff roster without going through waivers, but someone here has said differently.

I wouldn't be so quick to start looking to dump Z. First because he has little value to another team. Secondly he's starting to turn things around with a physical game and a small resemblance of defensive game.

I'd look to unload Carbombs first and then Nodl to bring in someone, whichever is left gets to play on the 4th line with Betts and Powe during the Play-offs

I think waiver rules still applies during the playoffs. If I recall correctly there were some talk about recalling Gauthier when we had all those injuries on d back in 08, but then was decided not to risk getting him through waivers.

Ah, it really doesn't... playoff revenue is a big deal to teams, and guys like Cole aren't going to return a huge chip in a trade.

I am almost 100% positive that the waiver rules remain in effect until the end of the season (i.e. the final game of the SCF). Independent of that, I'm not sure a player that has to pass through waivers can be eligible for postseason play for you (similar to a player acquired after the deadline).

If this isn't the rule, then it's a massive hole in the CBA. Logically, it would be a huge competitive advantage for wealthy teams to be able to stash a player in the minors at the deadline and then bring him back up without having to worry about re-entry come playoff time.

Erik Cole would be a good fit, but I'd like to have someone who plays more on the PK to give people rest during the Playoffs.

Carolina is almost in 8th place in the conference and Atlanta is sinking. Carolina has games in hand so unless they totally crap the bed they'll be in 8th next week. Because of that, I don't think they'd trade Cole unless they were getting someone decent back.
