It was a hell of an improvement over previous all-star game leadups, and I think they'll continue to tweak it a little bit next year.

Out of all the captains and alternates, St. Louis showed the most personality. It'd be fun if they more verbal guys next time, but good on Shanny and his team for coming up with this idea.

There are a few story lines that'll be interesting to see -- Sedin vs Sedin, Roo vs Briere, Sharp vs the Hawks.

I thought it was great when none of the Lidstrom guys wanted to be the one to call Phil up.

I bet Phil Kessel will never work harder than he does this Sunday.

Yeah what's up with that? Is Kessel unpopular with guys around the league?

I'm a huge Kessel fan... Everyone just hates him because...
1) He's a leaf
2) His stock was way to large after 08-09

Still very flawed, but still a hell of a lot better then all the previous ASG stuff. They got a good concept going here, but they need to improve it. Duthie was a horrible host. His attempts at comedy were pitiful and he didn't seem to talk with the players very well. Too much time was also wasted with those crappy interviews that were after like every other pick. Too much time was also wasted on nearly insufferable "analysis" from that panel with McGuire on it. McGuire was especially terrible. They analyzed the whole event like it was serious and as if the ASG actually mattered and as if the players cared all that much or put much thought into their picks (which they didn't). When the two teams kept picking "their boys" for the first three or so rounds and Ward was the first pick, there was obviously no serious strategy from the players. You could even tell that the players thought that the whole analysis thing was utterly retarded.

The whole thing was dragged out and took way too long. It should have only taken about half an hour and instead it took over an hour.

I would have put highlights in of the players like they do at the real draft when players were selected.

Sucks that the guys they picked to be Captains and Assistants didn't have too much personality. If I was Kesler I totally would have said "From the Philadelphia Flyers. . . Team Staal picks. . . what's his name???"

A lot of the guys didn't have as much fun as they should have had with the commentary and drafting of players. They needed more spunk.

I also would have liked to see Lidstrom ask if they could substitute a player for Kessel, that would have been awesome.

Probably didn't help with all the breaks caused by Duthie being a tool and McGuire and the like treating this as a serious event.

They should have picked Seguin last instead of Kessel.

Honestly though, seeing Ovechkin laugh at his misery was the best part of the entire draft.

That and when Duthie kept calling for Kessel to see him, but Kessel kept ignoring him.

"Phil come on down here...Phil? Phil? Phil? Phil?"

RT @DarrenDreger: Brian Burke suggests last 5 players of the ASG draft should be drawn out of a hat. Doesn't like negative focus on Kessel.

It wouldn't be a negative focus on Kessel if the Leafs weren't so bad. I feel bad for Kessel that he's essentially in a situation where he has to be a superstar or else the media jumps down everyone's throat.

Agreed. It's not fair that he has to deal with all the crap because of the Toronto media and the fact that the rest of the Leafs suck.

I think instead of worrying about Kessel going last, Burke should worry about the fact that after years of rebuilding, Kessel is your only all star.

If I remember correctly too, I think Staal made a crack at Toronto before picking Stastny.

Also, just to clarify...36 total players? So they only run 3 lines?

Well, Kessel wouldn't have nearly as much negative focus if every god damn person didn't go up and interview him about being picked last. I swear the entire end of that broadcast was like:

"HEY KESSEL YOURE PICKED LAST THAT SUCKS WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE"
"ANYONE GET ON YOU FOR BEING LAST LOL?"
"HEY REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE PICKED LAST, TALK ABOUT THAT"

Like, how much analysis can you really get from someone being picked last? Kessel just kept saying "Yeah I'll be fine" and they kept going. So awkward.
