The Ottawa Senators have signed both Alexander Frolov and Nikolai Zherdev to 2 year contracts paying them $2,750,000 per year. The deal also includes a NMC for this year with a conditional one next year if they both reach 40 points.
The Buffalo Sabres have signed defenseman Jan Hejda and goaltender Dwayne Roloson. We feel that Jan is a solid young veteran who will help Tyler Myers in his learning of the game. As for Dwayne, he will split games with Jhonas Enroth for this season.
Hejda 12M$ for 3 years (4M$ per)
Dwayne Roloson 5M$ for 2 years (2.75M$, 2.25M$)
In what is expected to be our last move of the off-season, the Phoenix Coyotes have inked forward Alexei Ponikarovsky to a 2-year deal worth $2.5M per year.
Poni is coming off a rough season in which injuries took their toll, never allowing him to truly get going. But at age 30 we believe he's still the player that has averaged >50 points a season from 2005-2009.
Poni is expected to play alongside Dave Bolland and Lauri Korpikoski.
With this signing we head into the 2011-12 lining up like this:
Ray Whitney -- Martin Hanzal -- Shane Doan
Andrew Brunette -- Shawn Horcoff -- Martin Havlat
Alexei Ponikarovsky -- Dave Bolland -- Lauri Korpikoski
Taylor Pyatt -- Vernon Fiddler -- Lee Stempniak Scratch: DJ King
Michal Roszival -- Keith Yandle
Derek Morris -- Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Adrian Aucoin -- Karlis Skrastins Scratch: Nolan Yonkman
TOTAL SALARY CAP -- $60,243,750
SALARY CAP LIMIT -- $62,370,000
CAP SPACE -- $2,126,250
"We are very excited to add a player like Ruutu to our team. Over the past couple of years we've been needing an agitator type player and Ruutu is exactly that. He'll play on our 4th line with Jason Chimera and Matt Hendricks. We feel it'll be one of the best 4th lines in the NHL."
"To be able to sign a player like Niklas Lidstrom is a huge deal for us. He may not be the player he was 5 years ago, but he's still a top-pairing defenceman and has all the experience in the world. We think bringing in Lidstrom will greatly help out our young defenceman like Mike Green, Jeff Schultz, John Carlson, and Karl Alzner. It will have the same impact as Sergei Fedorov had a couple of years ago."
It's a 1 year 6.5 million dollar contract with a full NMC.
