Teams voicing interest in Mark Stuart

http://www.csnne.com/01/31/11/Notes-...26&feedID=3944

Quote:
Hockey sources here indicated to CSNNE.com that there’s strong interest on the trade front in defenseman Mark Stuart, and that dealing the rugged defenseman might be an option for the Bruins over the next four weeks if the team needs to clear salary cap space for a roster move.
What could the bruins get for him?

I'm not an expert on these fair trade values but I guess a second would get it done.

I'll take him on the Lightning. If this is a cap dump, what would need to be added to a 4th rounder?

He's due to be a UFA right? I would think his value would be in the same ballpark as Wisniewski's.

I can't see any reason for the Bruins to give him up. He's tough as nails, rock solid defensively and as good as any 5-6 defenseman in the NHL. You've gotta have depth on the blueline in the playoffs.

With Savard going on LTIR, this may be another move to clear up some cap space maybe to bring in a Kaberle or Pitkanen that we need to be paired with Z.

I think he would fetch a conditional pick like Derek Morris. conditional 3rd that becomes a 2nd if he resigns.

I hate to see him go, but we have too many stay at home defenders. We need a good PMD, and to get that PMD we need cap space.

he wouldnt be dealt for a 4th rounder, he wouldnt be a cap dump, just an option if looking to free up room on the roster, he doesnt make enought to warrant being a cap dump

I know, I know Montreal and Boston almost never trade.

I think this deal works for both sides for needs.

Montreal

Weber

for

Boston

Stuart

Its what both teams are both looking for and it addresses Boston's cap needs and fils out their roster and the same for the Habs.

Stuart carries a 1.675 cap hit and is a UFA at season's end - he is definitely not a "cap dump" merely expendable with the emergence of "Lone Wolf McQuaid" in the backend.

I don't he is worth trading. He would probably fecth get a mid round pick. I would much rather keep his leadership and great defense here if that is all we would get.

I'd be happy with a 2012 3rd rounder that turns into a 2nd if he resigns.

Unless you get a 2nd for him is it really worth moving him? What is his cap hit going to be for the last part of the year 300k? Not much of a savings.

This was the player I actually wanted the Avs to trade for earlier in the season. I imagine they're still interested.

I'd offer a 3rd for him, or perhaps a prospect if that's what the Bruins wanted. If it's a PMD they want, the Avs have them in spades. You can have Hunwick back (ha), Cumiskey, even Liles, Holos, Shattenkirk, or Elliot would be on the table for the right price.

No way. Cumiskey/Hunwick and a pick, or maybe Holøs straight up.

It's good you have "for the right price", because Shattenkirk would command a real good price.

like I said, for the right price. not straight up for most of those names, of course. Only as part of a larger deal. I would be very interested in something involving the Tor 1st and Liles, much as I'd hate to lose him. But he'd be a perfect fit for them.

Definitely would offer a third that becomes a second next season if he resigns from a Habs perspective. Throw in a low level prospect if necessary.

I would cry if Stuart ends up in a Habs jersey.
Deal him as far away as possible of the division.

Definitely Stuart won't be cap dump. With Savard on LTIR, we can add $5M at the deadline. If in fact he is on the move, Chia should try a 2nd, independently if he re-signs or not.

Then why is he barely the 5th or 6th defenseman on the team he's on now? At this point it's arguable if it's him or McQuaid as the 6th d-man, and it honestly seems like McQ has jumped him on the depth chart, pushing Stuart to the 7th spot.

Trade him for a conditional pick, as others have mentioned, and pick up a cheaper veteran 3rd pairing guy for that depth. And, also like others have mentioned, I can't see him going directly to MTL, but I could see Team X acquiring him and then moving him to the Habs afterwards.

Yeah. Weber or the 3rd/conditional 2nd is the right value but there's not a chance I'd trade him to Montreal.
