Toronto-Philly?

It makes sense for me after reading Mike Augello's blog, from hockey buzz.
But what possible return could the Leafs get?
Quote:
The Philadelphia Flyers waiving of defenseman Matt Walker and his $1.7 Million salary down to the AHL just adds fuel to the fire that they are going to make a move at the trade deadline to shore up the only apparent weak spot on their roster; between the pipes.

A deal between the Flyers and Leafs for Jean-Sebastien Giguere makes complete sense, with Burke and Flyers GM Paul Holmgren having a long association through USA Hockey, with the goalie’s contract being up at the end of the season and Toronto having the ability to take salary back from the Flyers to make room for the veteran netminder’s $6 Million cap hit.

The Flyers boast arguably the best defensive corps in the league and are extremely deep at forward, but their management and ownership are leery of a repetition of last season, when their goaltending got them to through the Eastern Conference, but let them down in the finals. Veteran Brian Boucher is considered too long in the tooth to be depended on for a deep playoff run and the pressure on rookie Sergei Bobrovsky might be too much to bear.

I wouldn't mind going after Hartnell, but will take more than Giguere.

Maybe Giguere + Versteeg?

Maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick for Giguere?

I think it would make sense, but i think the flyers would prefer Tomas Vokoun. If they were not able to land him then they might turn to Jiggy. Not sure what they would have to give Toronto but i doubt it would be to much. Could be very interesting to see how he does in Philly. If he doesn't do well in Philly he may have a hard time finding a job in the offseason.

I don't think Philly is interested in trading any of their current top-6 forwards. They're trying to win now, and upgrade their forward group apparently, not downgrade.

If there was a deal between Toronto and Philly, I could see it being something minor. Maybe Giguere for a pick at the deadline, or Versteeg to Philly for ???.

Can't see Giguere returning much at all.

Salary dump plus a pick? 3rd rounder?

Don't know if that works for the Flyers in terms of cap.

I doubt they want to shake up their forwards. They're probably looking at dealing a pick or prospect.

No interest in Giguere. He is washed up, with a nagging injury and a huge cap hit.

Cap space will be an issue with the Flyers re: goalie upgrade (Vokoun, Jiggy) but I can see them go after Freddy Sjostrom to re-unite with Betts on the PK. Wouldn't take much and is very cheap.

1. Flyers waive Walker to clear room
2. Report it was to make a trade with most popular team in the league
3. Increase site traffic
4. Bang Shania Twain

With Burke's fascination for pugilists, I'd imagine Carcillo as being an item of interest. Although I consider this supposed rumor bunk.

I think that sounds about right, a 3rd rounder seems more than fair, unless the Leafs do something similar to Lagenbrunner deal and put conditions on the pick moving to second depending on rounds won and games played by Giguere.

Philly has to send some sort of salary back to us... and it definitely won't be one of their core guys they're relying on to produce in the postseason.

I'd be happy with a small deal that expires at the end of this season and a good prospect.

Young players that will definitely make the NHL in 1-2 years and play a top 6 role is all Toronto is looking for at this point.

If Burke calls around and discovers that Giguere is the only goalie on the market, I'd play hardball and ask for JVR. I doubt they would do it unless they REALLY had doubts about their goaltending tandem but you'll never get what you want if you don't ask.

Boucher and Bobrovsky are each better than Giguere. This is stupid.

Oh please dear lord take Giggy from us. I'd bless you even if you did us the favour of picking him up off waivers.

maxium a 4th rounder and a salary dump. IF they are interested in giggy. But I dont think he's really an upgrade to what they have already. More like a very expensive backup.

That is laughable, especially the Boucher part.

Perhaps the Flyers don't want to go in to their best cup-run chance in recent history with a goalie that's been pretty good at times while often not at all tested, and let in quite many questionable goals in comparison to the amount of quality scoring chances he's faced?

Yes, I know you guys went to the finals with Leighton and Boucher, but with a real goalie, you'd probably won.

I was thinking the same, why would Philly want Giguere, Bob has played pretty good for Philly so far this season.

Never in a bajillion years.

I really hope the Flyers aren't serious about Jiggy.
