Too much from Ottawa. Maybe take out the 3rd and have Boston add a 3rd/4th.

I don't do this deal.

Phillips alone can get us a 2nd rounder and a solid prospect.

Ruutu can return a 3rd or something like that.

Boston's first rounder is a late one so basically a high second rounder.

Take the Ottawa third out and replace the Boston first with a second and you have a deal.

Throw in cap where needed.

If Boston is moving their 1st this year they want something that will help them this year.

As a Boston fan, I have zero desire to add a 9 point forward (in 46 games). He is being outscored by everyone of Boston's forwards that have played at least 25 games, this includes enforcer Shawn Thornton. Where does he play in Boston? He would be the 14th forward in Boston.

Boston also has little need for a 3-point defenseman. He is being outscored by all of Boston's 7 defensemen. I understand he's not an offensive defenseman, but neither is Andrew Ference or Adam McQuaid are both have more then twice as many points. He's also a -23. (270th for defensemen in the NHL ie last).

It's not a terrible value deal, but like most people, including myself, mentioned in yesterday's Eklund thread, Phillips shouldn't be the guy Boston targets. So it's a no from me. Even if the picks were tweaked.

What did you expect? Lol.

Not a chance Phillips nets a 2nd, let alone a 2nd and a solid prospect.

Phillip's 1st off year in about 12 years playing in a top pairing and now he's worthless?
The fact that he's KNOWN as a guy who also steps his game in the playoffs and he has little value for a playoff team?
He's been one of the top defensive defencemen in the league for almost a decade.

The entire Ottawa team has been horrible, far worse than their roster indicates they should be, in fact only 2 players are different from the team that made the playoffs last year.
Phillips will bounce back wherever he goes, and will have another strong 5 or 6 years in the league before any starts thinking about retirement.
this is not a guy with nothing left in the tank, this is a guy who is having an off year due in part that everyone else on the team sucks.

I understand everyone likes to oversell their guys and buyers want to underpay but Chris Phillips is worth a lot to a team looking for defensive help going into the playoffs.
His cap hit is low to begin with a $3.5 million so to fit him in is fairly simple as a UFA he could possibly be resigned by whomever trades for him since he would have waived his no trade clause to go there in the first place.

With Savard on LTIR, plus money banked, we can add $5M.

Even at his worst he is so far above Sutton and others that have gotten 2nds. Phillips has been steadily improving. By the deadline, I wouldn't be surprised if he returns close to his form of last year and gets resigned... or a 1st. Saying Phillips won't get a second is just dumb, especially considering we've heard a few experts say he will get at least a 2nd.

Lol.

I believe that Ottawa fans need to temper their expectation regarding a return for Phillips.

Because of his NTC he will control where he goes and as a result bidding on him will be restricted.

I agree. I think he returns a 2nd round pick. That seems to be the going rate for a good, top4 dman rental.

In fact, Bob MacKenzie just said on TSN that they can probably expect a 2nd for him.

We shall see I guess, I think you are completely delusional if you think an aging D man having a bad season is gonna net u a second round pick. All speculation at this point though so not worth arguing about/
