We aren't even close to the cap and the only person Souray is costing money is Katz, so it dosen't bother me.

Calgary:

Who has to go asap:
Steve Staios
Ales Kotalik

Players I wouldn't mind trading to dump cap:

Rene Bourque
Matt Stajan
Jay Bouwmeester
Niklas Hagman
Cory Sarich

Although I like our defense right now (excluding Staios). Id Rather keep Sarich and Bouwmeester but theyre both overpaid

Pens don't have many outrageous contracts.

But they should dump godard and possibly talbot

If we're trying to make a deal or something at the deadline, yeah Staios should definitely go. After this season he's gone so there's no worry there and Kotalik is in the minors. Wouldn't mind helping the franchise save 3mil though if we can just throw him anywhere else.
Other than that, Stajan and Hagman are two that come to mind, but they certainly aren't as bad as most of the other overpaid players out there. As for Sarich, definitely should be moved somewhere.

Jaybo and Rene? Overpaid perhaps by a mil each but not people we necessarily need to dump.

Detroit doesn't really have one at the moment. Hudler's elevated his game to the point where Detroit would lose more by trading him than they would add from whatever they'd get at the moment.

I suppose we'd use Miller as a roster dump, but even then with his good PK and low salary he has value besides being a dump.

Redden? No team is touching that contract. Redden will be in the AHL or in Europe next season collecting his $6.5M salary with no escrow deductions.

maybe I have a different definition of a salary dump than some... to me its a player included for only their salary... a guy with 1 year left or is a pending UFA including to make the cap hits balance...

You see guys like Ryder included in the list but honestly he's got some value right now on his own... and if a team could acquire him a day or 2 before the deadline they could likely move him for a 2nd round pick

or Komisarek... with 3 full years left he is not a salary dump... he's a bad contract

to me salary dumps are guys like Steve Staios, JS Giguere, Alexei Kovalev, Simone Gagne, Pascal Leclaire, Cory Stillman, Chris Drury and Jason Blake

notice not including guys like Ales Kotalik and Sheldon Souray?... that because they aren't affecting a teams salary cap

Just Gomez and Spacek for the Habs. Well, with conditions even then. We need Spacek on D right now, so unless we had a replacement lined up, I wouldn't trade him just for salary purposes. Ditto Gomez, actually, except the salary windfall there is much larger.

It's ludicrous for any Habs fan to mention Hamrlik in this category. He's our #1 defenseman, and his contract expires this summer. There's no upside whatsoever in dumping him. Ditto Gill.

There's also no need to consider Andrei Kostitsyn in this category either. We're in the driver's seat with him too. He's RFA in the summer, so he can be qualifed/signed if we want, or let go if we don't.

Just Spacek and Gomez. But if Team X came up to me tomorrow and said "We'll give you a bag of pucks to take Spacek and Gomez off your hands", well, I'd have to decline. The Habs still need Spacek and Gomez this season. So moving them before the deadline as salary dumps would still be wholly contingent on getting equivalent/better players back in whatever other deals the team was making. If that condition isn't met, then I'd pull Spacek and Gomez out of the dump category as well.

I have to agree that Elias is not a salary dump. A salary dump is a player you would trade expecting little to no value in return, just to be rid of his contract. Elias does not fit that definition, if Lou was looking to trade him he'd definitely want fair value back.

You know the good GM's in the league because they won't have any guys on their club that could be classified as a salary dump.

For Vancouver I'd say the closest thing they have to it would be Sami Salo but this is only because we haven't seen him play after coming back from a pretty brutal injury. Salo has a history of coming back strong after injury and if he can do it again he'll go from cap-headache to top 2 defenseman in a hurry.

Jason Blake (4M/yr until 2011-12)
Andy Sutton (2.125M/yr until 2011-12)

That's about it, I think.

Horcoff is definately not a salary dump. The Oilers need his leadership for the kids. He protects Hall and Eberle defensively and allows them to learn the NHL game without fishing pucks out of their own net every 2nd shift.

Yeah, he is overpaid but every team can afford one overpaid guy if he is filling an important role.

Khabulin is a salary dump. Fraser is a salary dump. Foster is in that neighborhood.

You should remove Horcoff from the Oilers. He is overpaid, but he wouldn't be traded just to relieve salary, he actually brings something the Oilers need. In my eyes, there is a difference between overpaid and salary dump material.

Should have a lot more up there for Toronto. They should all be dumped and replaced.

Tyler Bozak (maybe not a dump but getting there)
Colby Armstrong
Francois Beauchemin
Mike Komisarek
Brett Lebda
And Giggy

In that order.
Roman Hamrlik should not be on that list at all nor AK. Hammer is a UFA after this season and has been our best all-round d-man in the wake of Gorges/Markov's injuries. Trading him now would be suicide.

AK meanwhile is 3rd in points on the Habs. Ahead of Gomez and Gionta. Yet you include him as a salary dump?

I think you have to add Savard to that list given his chronic concussion problems.
