Well, he's a piss poor goon, but he does bring a lot of energy, and is a decent forechecker. He brings a similar game to JF Jaques, but Jacques seems to be bigger and hits more consistently. I would be surprised if anyone claims Stortini.
A very strong power forward who is the polar opposite on the ice from his kind demeanor away from the rink. The rough aspects of the game are some of Strotini's best assets but the big winger can also score.
JF Jacques is beyond terrible, pretty well never fights and his hitting is sporadic at best.
Dumb move by the Oilers, for all the flack that Stortini takes he was the teams one and only beaker/agitator and though not the heavyweight everyone wanted him to be still a guy that would step up for his team mates.
Jacques -32 in 136 career games, Stortini -6 in 256 career games as a 4th liner on a series of terrible teams.
Oilers go from marshmellow soft to butter in the sun soft.
After he got absolutely embarrassed by Barch before the allstar break, he is done. Can't fight, and when he does, he doesn't get the momentum on the Oilers side due to him either getting his ass kicked or hugging out the fight. Also gets distracted on the ice too much and ignores the play at times. Does work his ass off though most games. The one thing he has going for him.
I'd rather had Pyatt than Zach "Huggy Bear" Stortini.
And I want toughness too, not a punching bag with limited skills.
You may want that (and so do I) but it's Jacques Martin coaching. He'll take a guy who has some hockey sense, can skate and not hurt the team for the 5-8 minutes that he'll put him on the ice for.
I truly feel that it's a compromise that I'm, at this point, ready to settle for instead of the status quo that we've had since Laraque was canned. (I'm not comparing him to Laraque BTW)

If we're to get a punching bag, at least get a competent player like TKO.
How much have you seen him play in the last couple of years (be honest here)? Stortini is NOT an enforcer. He's a guy who will hit, won't be afraid to drop the gloves and who will add grit to a line-up in desperate need for some!
