I agree. I predicted that would be his last game as an oiler.

Agreed, I would love to see Stortini to get another chance somewhere, even if it means someone claims him off waivers.

IMO, this is good news. The Oilers are clearing out spaces for the kids and impact contriobutors for next year. No point in delaying the inevitable.
Prepare for the 'kids' to be on the long term disabled list as the team gets softer and softer and softer. We play the Canorcs and the Flames and minny many times a year. We are going from soft to positively gooey.

Good. it is far better to keep Omark and Reddox around than Stortini. Love his heart, hate his ability. It's time to go with the best players, not the ones higher-ups like the most.

JFJ and Fraser should be next.

I was a fan of Storts but a decision had to be made. I'm glad Tambo made the right decision, now waive JFJ also.

Who exactly do you think Stortini was protecting with his antics?

.
This is one of the most incorrect assumptions many Oilers fans make. Jacques can skate fast in a straight line with a ton of room to get up to speed. That's it. He can't turn, stop, pivot, position his body to take a pass, properly line up a hit or manage himself well enough to stay in position. Stortini is a much better technical skater, owing largely to the work he's done in the offseason.

Guys like MPS, Reddox, and Jones draw way more penalties by using their speed and determination.

Fraser is a stop gap who can at least skate and play the PK. That said he isnt a long term solution and should be gone soon.

JFJ can skate circles around Strotini and hits a lot harder and more often. He may not fight as often, but he doesnt look as bad when he does. That and he pots the odd goal as well.

Glad Stortini is gone and never questioned his heart but the guy never had NHL talent.
LOL at fraser can pk.

Who cares of JFJ can skate circles around stortini. JFJ is the toughness version of MA Pouliot. Shows his stuff one in 10 games.
Condemn Stortini all you want he actually got involved, did bug other teams enough to go after him rather than our skilled players, which is the point.

He was distracting the other team with his antics and every time he gets smacked around is one less time that Hall, Eberle, Omark get smacked around.

Obviously management (and likely the coaching staff) disagree...

I read that Tootoo is planning on returning to hockey soon - maybe this is to clear space for Tootoo. I just made this up...

As long as you don't mean MacIntyre.

Can we afford now to get rid of Jacques? Fraser, meh. But apart from Smacker and his inability to stick in the lineup on a regular basis, who else do we have to bang bodies? Even as it was before waiving Storts, we were low on grit.

Exactly. While Stortini punched with the soft, fleshy underpart of his fist, he was at least trying to add some grit. But given that Reddox and Jones - let alone Omark - are going nowhere, there's no room.

And Hemsky's skating and soon to return. Does Tambo find his hand forced and makes a deal?

Should've been JFJ first IMO. Nonetheless, this move is understandable.

They are not in the slightest, but he does get under their skin, he does get involved and he doesn't just stand there if one of our guys gets his head rammed through the boards. Hey if we had a solid alternative to him no problemo but we don't.

MacIntrye suffers from the Laraque syndrome, fight only the other teams tough guy.

Jacques rarely fights and one game in 10 looks good by being physical all the time.

Fraser does nothing at all.

I have no problem with the coaching staff and management disagreeing, they have screwed up many times in the past. I'm sure they will again.

Exactly. Stortini should've been kept over both JFJ and MacIntyre, but the writing was ont he wall for Zach.

Neither one belongs in the NHL for more than a cup of coffee. At least JFJ can get in on the forecheck and punish the odd guy.

Stortini accomplishes nothing, the NHL is not a charity league and the guy has made a good living doing nothing other than being a goof and hugging it out.

Yeah let's get him and Khabi on the same team. It'll be like "Fear and Loathing in Edmonton". You're in Bat Country!

that was a brutal fight but i dont think that was the reason

he is being out played, just like prospects, roster player to will be passed by on our depth chart as well.

Stortini was lapped this year by many rookies and minor league players.

i know he is still young and not a bad player but if this team is going to get better we have to allow the players to sort out the roster based on who is better not by who has been here the longest.
