This is a team that keeps Strudwick around because "he's good in the room" and MacIntyre because "the players like having him around". Charity cases. As for JFJ, the guy must have pictures of Tambellini and Lowe at a Bangkok t**ty bar.

MacIntrye suffers from the Laraque syndrome, fight only the other teams tough guy.

Jacques rarely fights and one game in 10 looks good by being physical all the time.

Fraser does nothing at all.
I'd be all for keeping him, but for every penalty Storts draws he takes one or more.

I'm not that concerned because this year is a write off and I rather have Omark or Reddox getting the ice-time. I will however be pissed if they don't add grit in the off-season.

I'm just hoping Hartikainen gets a shot on the 4th line of the Oilers this year. This Stortini move clears a spot up.

Welcome to OKC Storts, nobody will pick him up. Stortini was never any good outside of a glimpse here and there. I appreciate his effort but it's time to get real hockey players to play on the 4th line, JFJ should be the next to go.

What other teams carry around a useless player like Stortini. Other players tough guys only beat on him because they find him annoying, how does that help the team.

If you honestly believe that other players skate around thinking I need to hit someone on this shift and pick Stortini on purpose you are very wrong. Other players laugh at him and skate away more often than they take penalties and actually get annoyed by him. Guys like Avery and Carcillo are hated and do their job well.

This was my initial reaction

One of the injured players is about to come back
Team realizes that have both smack and sortini on the rosters ties up a roster spot
Sortini maybe a light heavy weight. But he lacks in other aspects of the game
Omark and reddox and jfj have shown more

Riiight because having Stortini on the roster prevented our stars from getting injured in the past. The guy was an embarassment this year, other team's agitators would laugh hysterically at our "so called" agitator.

How many middle weights does one team need.

Vandermeer - beat up Barch pretty good before Barch tuned in Stortini
Peckham - hasnt been fighting as much due to a injured hand that is better now
JFJ - Equally as bad of a fighter but not as embarassing and knows when to pick his spots better
Strudwick - Fighting is about the only thing he doesnt suck at.

Yes getting "smacked around" is a zero sum game.

I always wonder what happens to posters who make these unequivocal statements, are clearly proven wrong and then disappear. It's a pet peeve of mine that posters will post this type of nonsense, thereby contributing to a sea of misinformation...

Vandemeer is a better fighter and a MUCH better player. Let Smac handle the big boys and Vandemeer can go with the Barchs and Bolls of the NHL. Peckham would be fighting more too if his hand was completely healed.

This is another interesting point. People who buy into this must believe that each player decides he will throw a certain number of hits in the game and then sits down with a sliderule to decide who's gonna get it.

Players take the hit when it's there. It doesn't really matter who it is.

Stortini has been paid more than $3 million by the Edmonton Oilers to play a sport he loves. I for one, believe he (in comparison to other NHL salaries) has earned every penny over the years.

He handled himself with class; everything we heard said he was a team player and a good team mate. I will always have a soft spot for him in my heart.

Having said that, sports is a business; sometimes difficult decisions have to be made. The writing was on the wall...

All the best Zach... And thank you for the memories....

Stortini seemed like a guy who had to work and play constantly to keep the tarnish off his game. As soon as he had to start competing for minutes with Jacques and Macintyre his game stalled, as both of those guys are better or seen to be better specialists.

Likely a guy that could do with better minutes and consistent play on the farm, not that it may ever get him back to Edmonton.

Stortini is on waivers!! OMG we are doomed, last place here we come.

For the record I like Stortini, he gives it all he's got all the time. But seriously, he isn't a very good player and sucks as a fighter and agitator.

Bang on buddy

Stortini gave it his all to be in the lineup. Its not easy to get into fights when you are out matched on many occasions and to take a beating for the team is admirable. This guy displays true passion and heart.

At least Brodziak could win a faceoff and make Stortini look decent. NOtice how since Brodziak left our 4th line has been awful.

Very well said, and I completely agree. He was a class act off the ice and worked his butt off on the ice. I wish him all the best, and I could see a team in the east picking him up for added grit down the stretch. A team like MTL or perhaps ATL or TB...

What stats would he be horrible at? He's holding his own in +/-, isn't getting scored against, is leading the club in hits/game, many of them damned good hits.
He's even popped in a few goals and has had his nose around the net for greasy goals. On some shifts he's now even been giving the Penner screen assignment.

I know you don't like the player but he's playing well this year. The only stats you could cite are some of the weirder ones like Relative Corsi and the like. In any of the actual counting numbers JFJ is doing well.
