The blurb I read said St. Louis is looking for scoring and willing to deal from their defensive depth. Sounds a lot like the Sabres. We should be dealing from our defensive strength to improve our offense. That being said, if you could acquire an Erik Johnson wouldn't you take a shot?
I drool over the thought of having Tyler Myers and Erik Johnson as our #1 and #2 defensmen for the next 10 years or more. Would Stafford plus a 1st in 2012 be enough? I don't want to give up too many pieces in the midst of a playoff hunt, but something along the lines of what Toronto gave Calgary for Phaneuf would be fine by me.
Nothing in that article says Erik Johnson is available.
Its a columnist suggesting all options should be on the table including moving Johnson.
Hence the "Speculation" heading and the ? following "Erik Johnson available". St. Louis has depth at defense as talked about in the article and Erik Johnson has yet to live up to expectations. If they got an offer they liked who knows? So, I just posed the question hypothetically. Would you acquire a talent like that on defense at the cost of our already struggling offense?

You're joking, right?
Erik Johnson is the face of their franchise. He's not going anywhere. Besides, Johnson and Myers probably wouldn't play on the same pair, since they're both righties, and both have the similar 'offense first' mindset.
I don't even know what they'd want. We can count our forwards that have value on one hand. Ennis + Vanek + this year's 1st for Johnson + Boyes? Boyes' 10 goals for $4 million sounds like something they'd want to dump if they're giving up Johnson. But, yeah... not happening. With Vanek gone, though, we could sign Richards.
I'd rather pry Jay McClement away from them; I've always liked him, and he's a -12 for them right now. Gaustad straight up? Both players get a change of scenery.
