Dallas Stars have little to show from 2006 Draft

The Dallas Stars, riding on the heels of a great regular season, entered the 2006 NHL Entry Draft without much ammunition.

Honestly, I consider that draft a moderate success given what they turned Vishnevskiy in to (at least, in terms of early returns on that trade). Getting a starting goalie who has played as well as Lehtonen has is nothing to sneeze at.

Love the Jack Campbell bash. Its great that we have already given up on goaltender that just turned 19 less than 3 weeks ago.

Also Ivan Vishnevskiy was a pretty great draft pick. He'll forever be known as "that dude" who was traded for Kari Lehtonen and Andrew Ladd. Not every prospect attains that level of notoriety. I think his greatest accomplishment in a Stars uniform has to be the time he scored on his own net. Guys go entire careers without accomplishing that.

It wasn't a Campbell bash (see avatar, and next top-20 list)...it was a "unfortunately for Bachman, the Stars drafted a potential franchise 'tender" ...my apologies if it read differently...

Its cool. I am just used to seeing people freak out about our prospects cause we didn't draft Fowler instead.

If any of you are curious

Vishnevskiy has made strides with his defensive game in Rockford this year but it has made him more timid offensively

He doesn't take the chances he has in past as he is more concerned with defense now

Likely to get a chance with Hawks next season if he doesn't go to KHL (He hasn't said anything about KHL nor does he seem to have any issues with his role in Rockford)

http://theahl.com/vishnevskiy-paying...akarov-p167134

Interesting article and the role Vishnevskiy has for Hawks in relation to acting as a mentor for our only other Russian prospect

From what I have read Vishnevskiy was never disliked by Star fans ,, Just never put thing together so I figured some of you would have interest in his progress with Hawks

But they should have drafted Fowler.

Vish has a problem in that Leddy is a similar undersized offensive d-man who has recived the call-up over IV-I assume KHL is likely. They also have Olsen. Its tough for him.

Frankly the stars drafts have been weird. Whiffing high by going against consensus (sachetti, Besko? /Glennie?) and then pulling a Benn or larsen low. The Jr A/college routs has yet to show much (Winkler, Guptill uggh)but maybe the smiths or Chaisson change that. I would like to see us get back to drafting WHL/OHL which seem to fit closest our style of play.

The Stars should have traded for Quincey... when he was playing well. Now, no one even speaks of him.

The Stars should have drafted Fowler... let's wait a little longer than one season to judge that, shall we?

Vish is improving defensively and the Hawks prefer to have all our dmen to be good skaters

I expect Makarov and Vish to get chance at open roster spots next camp

Olsen needs a good deal of work and likely spends next season in AHL

Okay can I go back and redo that Glennie pick for either Kulikov or MPS?

I felt strongly about when it happened. Last year didn't change my mind and this year hasn't either.

I feel the exact same way about Campbell. He may turn out great but I'm willing to put up odds that Fowler was more needed.
