The AAHL is toast, finished, kaput...

I hope the Troy Bruins apply for USHL membership; that seems like the ideal level for a franchise with that size building and that size market. No player salary expenses to deal with.

I'd like to see Battle Creek get into the USHL as well, but I don't think a 1500-seat building is going to cut it. They'd need about twice that size, at least, to make a go of it in the USHL. Maybe the NAHL instead?

How many franchises have gone belly-up in Flint over the last decade or so?

H1B visas. (Different than the visa used for NHL contracts)

There's a quota on them, and unless a team has the foresight to put their request in (early in the calendar year), they may not be able to "hire" non-Americans as they've run out of H1B visas for the year.

Sounds like whoever they hired to do their HR was not up on this issue.

Or .. they could have gotten P visas, which is what sports teams usually do.

However, ICE doesn't usually like to grant them to teams that are in leagues with less than 6 teams.. (See: IHL+CHL)

There also may have been questions as to the level of play in the AAHL and whether the league was good enough to qualify for P visas, however if other teams in the league got P visas this year this probably would have not been a factor.

RIP AAHL
Well there goes the AAHL's most stable and professionally run franchise. Hopefully they'll be back next season in the USHL or NAHL.

Well, the AAHL is still limping along. Battle Creek and Chi-Town will play a shortened schedule including an "All-Star" game against some players from the folded franchises.

Best of 7 series between the Revs and Shooters will start January 28, yay.

Quote:
"And there will be a league next year. Battle Creek's not going anywhere, and neither is Chi-Town. But for any new teams that want to join our league, we're going to have to make sure that we have more requirements, more proper guidelines in place so that any new team that joins the AAHL won't be dropping out in the manner in which took place this season.''

Clouston added that the operating budget for an AAHL team is somewhere in the range of $200,000 to $350,000 per season.

Why Won't You Die?

Well, the AAHL has decided to create another 'team' based in Battle Creek, yes, where the Battle Creek Revolution play. The team is called the Moose.

Quote:
"I mean, this is just 100 percent amazing. It's going to be an amazing conclusion to this season now, considering how bad things looked for the league just a little bit ago. We're excited, the players are excited and we're hoping the fans stay excited, too.''
- Revs coach and AAHL president Bobby Clouston

Amazing conclusion to a season that saw the league lose all but TWO teams? Then finish the season with a reduced schedule and having to create a team in a town that already has a team and is now coached by the AAHL commissioner!?

That 100 percent amazing quote is right! This must be an idea from the same person or people who had the idea of putting a team in Madison Wisconsin within a few miles of the Kohl Center and Wisconsin Badgers and a team in suburban Cincy in a 1,000-seat community ice rink within a 15 min drive to a well established ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones team.

Battle Creek Revolution beat the Michigan Moose 15-4 this weekend. The 'season' finally comes to an end this weekend and the playoffs will start. No word on what teams will qualify for the playoffs.
Oh wait, there are only three teams in the league and 1 just started playing this weekend.

Time for Playoffs

Well folks, it's here. The moment everyone in the hockey world has been waiting for, the AAHL playoffs. All the games are finished and the points are being tallied. Hopefully we will know who will meet in the first round (actually only round) of the playoffs.

Yes, there are only 3 teams left standing in this league, and yes, the Battle Creek Revolution are the only official team to have played the entire season. However, the league has not announced who the 1st place Revolution will be playing. Make sense? Nope. According the Battle Creek Enquirer, the league has yet to announce an opponent to join the race for the coveted AAHL Davidson Cup. What are the choices you ask? Well, here they are. The Chi-Town Shooters, the re-incarnation of the Indiana Blizzard (Chi-Town Shooters play in the AAHL last season, but folded after last season). And the other opponent are the Michigan Moose. The Moose started two weeks ago and are mix of all the players that became free agents when 4 teams folded all around the same time (Queen City Storm, Lapeer Loggers, Troy Bruins, Madison Ice Muskies). The Moose play in Battle Creek (same town as the Revolution) and are coached by the President of the league.

Seems like Chi-Town would be the best candidate for the playoffs because when the Blizzard relocated to Chi-Town, they brought their points and games played with them. And the Moose have only played 2 games, losing both terribly by a combined score of 27-8 to Battle Creek.

Yet, here we are on the cusp of the most exciting part of hockey and league keeps us in terrible suspense trying to build up the excitement until we cannot take it anymore. Who will it be? Moose vs Revolution or Shooters vs Revolution?!
