Just nabbed Cody Hodgson off of the free agents list. Hopefully he gets some solid playing time.

Um, sure about that? I just grabbed him as he was still available. Did you have some IR roster conflicts? I'll trade him to you!

Maybe you came to the "Drop Player" screen and mistook it for your "My Team" page and thought you had him? Only explanation I could think of.

Yeah that must have been what happened. Hopefully the Canucks send him right back down to the A!

Nah he was FA. I think it was the IR deal because I had Olesz on there and just forgot to drop him when he came off. No worries, he was probably going to just sit on my bench anyway.

The hard thing with IR is that you have to bring them back onto your active roster to dump them. I went to do this and lucked out that someone else was injured at the time, so I swapped them and dropped the player I wanted to.

One thing we should reconsider next season IMO is waivers. The waiver order is really only useful if someone releases somebody, and because of having IR spots the chances of a good player being replaced are slim to none. Only because hypothetically if Luongo should go down for an extended period of time it's simply a race to see who can pick up Cory Schneider. BTW cool read on all stars Jim.

If we're going to do straight waivers, ESPN gives me the maximum option of 4 days before clearing waivers.

There is also a Free Agency Auction Bidding (FAAB), described on ESPN's site as such, if anyone would like to switch to this next season:

Quote:
Bring the auction experience to your free agent list. A free-agent acquisition budget (FAAB) is used in blind auctions open to every team within the league. League Managers can select this option via a radio button in the "Transaction and Keepers" tab of the league setup process.

In an auction bidding environment, players who are not selected in the league draft, players who are dropped and players added to the player pool during the season become FAAB-eligible for the timeframe set by the League Manager. However, instead of placing a traditional waiver claim, an owner places a bid they feel is appropriate based on a player's value. The LM assigns the pre-determined budget of each team for FAAB bidding over the course of the season. During the bidding period, team owners may bid at any time before the deadline. In a FAAB bidding environment, the only way players can be picked up is through the FAAB bidding process, and there are no first-come, first-served pick-ups. The bidding process is an open process and there is no sequence for the bids. Team owners may bid at any time during the waiver period, before it expires.

In the event of bids of equal amounts for a player by two or more teams (a tie), the lowest-ranked team in the year-to-date standings will receive the player. During the bidding period, no team can see any other team's bids or bid amounts. All teams can view FAAB bidding results after bids are processed, either on the league home page or in waiver reports. Additionally, all teams can view other teams' budget balances on each team clubhouse and waiver order pages.

Just as an FYI:

If there are any other suggestions for changes to the league settings/rules, suggest them. I'll make note and we'll discuss them in the off season.

For next season, do we just keep the same roasters? Or do we re draft? I've never done a keeper league before.

You keep 5 players, you have to keep at least 1 defenseman and you can keep at most 1 goalie, the rest are fair game to combine to 5. The rest go into the draft and are drafted at the beginning of next season.

It's a happy medium to where you keep some of your team and get a new one each year to prevent teams from sucking to continue to do so, or even out everything by keeping teams on top from dominating.

Well last time we had a month at most to get everything agreed upon. The season and playoffs in this end when the regular season in the NHL ends. So, figure we have May through September to agree upon changes, and get the draft date down. Not sure how far out you see your schedule, but we'll do our best. I tried last time, but obviously it's hard to make all 20 teams happy.

Nah it's cool. I was one of the minority, so it wasn't a big deal. Just the way it works hah.

I'm going to be 5-11 after being 5-5. Good stuff. I love when Getzlaf and Whitney go down with injuries.

Didn't you draft a bunch of defense in a league where large sums of points go to goals, assists, and powerplay points?

Yeah I did but I also expected Filatov to do something this year. My 4th round pick (Streit) hasn't played a game this year. Stastny was out for a time and now Getzlaf and Whitney are out. Mike Green was my first round pick. I had the top producing defenseman by a large margin for a while but not anymore. Green, Letang, Whitney, Streit, and Carlson would have helped me if they all played this year. Up until this slump I was towards the top half of every stat. Just hit some bad luck recently.
