What will help the Leafs in negotiations is that MacArthur loves being a Maple Leaf. I think he considers the logo on his chest as a matter of pride. However, he wants to feel appreciated. It was said that he didn't like that Atlanta did not think he was worth a pay raise.

MacArthur is likely right up there with Schenn in Burkes priority list for getting players signed next off season. There is no secret to MacArthur putting up these big numbers other than he works his arse off,and is a very good player.

A number between 2.8 to 3.3 million @3 years wouldn't be surprising to me.

the Star has an article about Burkes plan for MacArthur

Quote:
Burke said he plans to negotiate a contract extension with MacArthur, who is playing on a one-year, $1.1 million deal.

“We have not approached him yet. That’s something we’ll get to in the next little while. You have to figure out what a fair salary is for a player who has had a breakthrough year,” said the GM.

“He’s not a player we intend to move at the deadline, whether he has signed an extension or not at that point.”

A raise is obvious but what is the number? Is he a guy taking advantage of opportunies on a thin offensive team or is he a player who is having a breakout year?

The whole line has played very well all season. The question with them is what happens when you improve upfront & ice-time for them isnt as available as it is now?

Not to mention the guy's compete level. You can tell he hates to lose. Could be a great leader on the team.
