The Sharks need to get less top-heavy, need more speed in their top six and puck-movement from their blueline. That deal fixes all of that. If the Jackets will take Huskins or Wallin instead of Vlasic that would be great but something tells me they wouldn't. Clowe--Couture--Voracek also has the potential to replace Marleau--Thornton--X as the top line in a few years ensuring that San Jose won't have to endure a season like the Devils are having right now when Patty and JT decline to the point of irrelevance.

EDIT: Anyway, no one is really sure if Heatley's NMC is still in place and I doubt he'd waive it to go to Columbus if it is so the deal would be contingent on that.

Columbus really needs to work on their player development. Not every player is a bulletproof, self-starting superstar like Rick Nash.

Either that or they need to somehow aquire more bulletproof, self-starting superstars like Rick Nash.
How was he rushed? His rookie year he looked completely ready to take over CBJ's net for the next 10 years. I hardly think being rushed in the culprit. I'd lean more towards the expectations, and him potentially being way too hard on himself because I would lean towards him being rushed.

No doubt, I don't think Columbus would consider turning that one down.

A couple months back McGuire was asked on his Ottawa Team 1200 segment about Mason and said it all comes down to his work ethic/preparation whether he'll be a good goaltender but he has all the physical tools. Maybe a trade to another organization will jumpstart his career.

If he is traded the Blue Jackets almost certainly won't be receiving anything great in return because of how poorly Mason has played but also when you look at what Montreal got for Halak or Atlanta got for Lehtonen last year it indicates goalies bring back a marginal return in trades.

Have you actually watched the Hawks this year?

Crawford has been rock solid

Mason IMO has very little value. He's a lot like Cam Barker from the Wild. At one point highly rated, but now overpaid and very underachieving. And Mason's got two years at that cap hit after this.

I can't see any reason Columbus would trade him now. They're not going anywhere, they're not getting anything for him, might as well let him try and salvage his career next year.

this has got to be depressing for columbus fans.

all that talk about the greatness of tanking for top young talent, only to trade away that talent at age 22.

What is wrong with Columbus? I have to ask that. Minnesota had issues with developing youth but I think we've corrected that.

Mason had nothing to do with a tank...he was a 3rd round pick.

At this point, moving him (or in a package) for something that could improve the team would actually be more intriguing than anything.

The question is what kind of a return could be had.

From their standpoint, its awful timing. Not much in goalie prospects either. Better off trying to improve their team defence than trading Mason.

This isn't new. Dreger said 2 weeks ago that Mason, Klesla, Voracek, and Vermette MAY be being shopped. This is an extension of that.

Mason's poor play is mostly due to our terrible defense. We give up an inordinate number of legitimate scoring chances in contrast to how many shots we allow.

DONE.

Hell, if you want Mason, throw him in there and give us one of your backups.

i could definitely see the Devils being interested. gives him a chance to play with his hero Brodeur, and hopefully he can bounce back and be our franchise netminder. the asking price would more than likely be very high, so that may take them our of the running but i am very confident Lou would at least be interested.
I think this is a very good proposal. Brodeur could mentor the kid and get him back to elite status for when Brodeur retires.

Brodeur is his idol, NJ will need a goalie in the up coming years and why not he can be mentored by his idol.

Wonder what it would take.

Wow, just a few years ago he was a calder trophy winner.
For sure a bunch of teams should be interested: OTT, EDM, TOR (lack of goaltending) FLA, NJD, TB (for replacing older guys/UFA).

Mason is still extremely young for a goalie. He has TONS of talent. So why isn't he doing well? Mindset.

Calder made his attitude of fighting for the starting job and giving it his all go to "Pssh I got money and the starting job locked up. **** working hard!" Personally, I would make him a healthy scratch and yell at him till he got the point that he needs to work for it.

If he gets a good attitude going and his work ethic back, he's a great goalie and he has shown flashes of his talent.
