I would prefer him around $4.0M, but I might be willing to pay $4.5M depending on how he finishes and how long the term is.

Williams extension, sound like he wants 4.5....... Id like to keep him but that may be steep.

So is Moller ready to produce like a Justin Williams next season??? I say they NEED to pay the man at least for another year.

Didn't realize in terms of real cash, Erat is getting 5.25 million this year and 6 million next year.

Might be Williams' last chance to score a big contract, so I wouldn't blame him if he tested the waters on July 1.

I think you are right and they won't be signing him for 1 year. DL doesn't have many options. Bend over and take it!

No way he signs a one year deal, I see 3 as a minimum, and I bet he prefers something like 5 years @ $4.5 million, though he isn't going to get it, at least not here. I would try to negotiate him down, but if I absolutely had to, I would pay him $4.5 million for 3 years. He solidifies our right side with both him and Brown and then Simmonds right behind him, we wouldn't have to worry about the right side for years.

We have to resign Williams. We already have a big hole on LW, we don't need one on the right side too. I say give him 3-4 years at around 4mil per year. Only problem is, with Smyth and his 6.25M cap hit....we won't have much cap space after Doughty and Simmonds are resigned.

4.5 is the going rate for what Williams provides. How can the Kings offer Williams anything less when they are paying Smyth a 6.2 hit and they have been very similar players.

People need to realize the cap isn't $40 million anymore.

If the Kings let Williams leave over money and expect Moller to fill in it's going to be another black hole type season next year. Williams is an ideal 2nd line RW'er right now.

Well Justin Williams has all the bargaining power at this point. DL can take it or leave it. Somebody WILL give him $4.5m per a year. Hopefully DL doesn't let him walk because the Kings really can't afford to lose him.

I say pay him $4.5m for 3 years and call it a day.
Really? It is really only money?

It's only a 1 million dollar raise for him. Considering the scoring issues we have had, it would be foolish not to extend him.

I wonder how many years he is seeking.....

Vanek is a honest to god goal scorer. Guys a monster when he's on his game.... Now I get to the downside. I've also thought of Vanek as a guy who doesn't seem to play to this ability. He signed a gigantic massive contract and then never reached as high as he did the season before. Still a heck of a goal scorer but you wonder if he isn't trying as hard once he got the money. DL talked about with with JJ. Problem with every long-term contract is will the player keep doing everything he can to be better or does he become complacent.
Still I suppose a guy who can still get 30 goals is good enough even though he might be able to get 40+ if he really worked at it.

As for Williams. $4.5 sure does sound like what you'd expect. It isn't like the NHL has a whole bunch of top-6 forwards available. Williams is going to be one of the top-5 guys on the market.... I think you still resign him if for no other reason then you can't replace him. Roll the dice and hope he stays healthy.

Because his CAP hit is 7.1M.

Probably too much $$$, or even years, for DL's liking. Makes me wonder what he may be worth around Feb 28th packaged with one or more of our prospects

I wouldn't do it...this is the first year he has showed up to camp in shape in years and hasn't been injured. He has proven nothing. I'd give him a one year for 4.5 but that's it.

Doughty, Simmonds, Martinez, Johnson, Richardson, and Lewis will all have higher CAP hits next year. If Williams is resigned, there will be very little CAP space left, which means our roster will be almost exactly the same next year minus Handzus.

FORWARDS
Ryan Smyth ($6.250m) / Anze Kopitar ($6.800m) / Justin Williams ($4.500m)
Andrei Loktionov ($0.816m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.140m) / Dustin Brown ($3.175m)
Scott Parse ($0.900m) / Jarret Stoll ($3.600m) / Wayne Simmonds ($2.500m)
Brad Richardson ($1.000m) / Trevor Lewis ($0.903m) / Kyle Clifford ($0.870m)
Kevin Westgarth ($0.525m)

DEFENSEMEN
Rob Scuderi ($3.400m) / Drew Doughty ($4.750m)
Jack Johnson ($4.357m) / Willie Mitchell ($3.500m)
Matt Greene ($2.950m) / Alec Martinez ($0.975m)
Vyacheslav Voinov ($0.816m)

GOALTENDERS
Jonathan Quick ($1.800m) /Jonathan Bernier ($1.250m)

SALARY CAP: $59,400,000;
CAP PAYROLL: $58,778,725;

He has a history of injuries but not of not showing up in shape.

JW is a workout fiend. One of his injuries in Car was from a freak workout accident

Lombardi said in a recent interview that his commitment to his summer workout hasn't always been there.

Johnjm, you also forgot Drewiske.

No one is questioning his work ethic. In previous years, injuries impeded his ability to get in shape. This year was the first time he was in the shape he wanted to be in, in years. He said so himself.

I believe he said injuries prevented him from getting into shape.

I didn't forget Drewiske, I think he's a goner. The organization will want to give Voynov a shot. I think DD44 gets put on waivers if he can't be moved in a deal.

I am a little shocked to read that he said that
I remember Lombardi mentioning his work ethic, especially working out when he acquired him (injured) and was selling him to the fans

I think the Kings will either trade Martinez, waive Harrold and promote Voynov and keep Drewiske as the #7 or trade him and like you said, Martinez or Voynov battle next year for #6 and #7.

Good post..this is exactly why were going to lose either 2 or 3 of Stoll, Simmonds, and Williams in order to get our permanent LWer for Kopitar.

I would try re-sign Williams (unless Moller is really read). Let Handzus walk. Trade Stoll and maybe use Simmonds or Clifford as trade bait.

Use Simmonds and or Clifford as trade bait?! WTF! Those are the only two guys hard to play against besides Brown in the top 12 forward spots. F that.
