I would say that our defense and hot goalies can steal one series in any circumstances (not the fact, but possibility is there). We are still big and somekind of fast team. With good effort we can make a run for anyone's money.

Not doing the upgrade at TDL = risking to end up at 9th place.
Some effort in the end of the season = maybe 6-7 additional home games in playoffs. That's a lot of money.

If GM chooses to not to attempt to form a second scoring line, then I question his reasoning. Sure Ovi DROVE this team but we can win games when he appears hungover. We have to move past full Ovi dependency, it appears.
The no brainer is a 2C. Even if he chooses not to get one, we can still eek out wins. Yep, with our defense and goaltending, the strengths of our team, we can have a chance every night. We are still a noob defensive team. It takes time to do a 180 with the same coach. New coach? usually overnight. Anyways. George can't change coaches because he already said he wouldn't, right?

Wow, you can't just give up on making a push. You work with what you have and try to improve it within reason. We have enough talent that could come alive at any time. Who knows what next year could bring. How about awful injuries to key stars ruining another season?

We need another goal scorer IMO. We need a two line scoring offense to take the pressure of of 8 & 19.
If we can get one without betting the farm, i think its worth it. Have to live in the present with such a physical sport where injuries can come anytime.
And what do you think Perreault by himself would bring back?

You can never undervalue guys who are really hungry to get another one before their time is up and can bring that 'been there done that' swagger to a young team. (Bill Guerin is a good recent example)
he's got to wake up every morning after home games and look his mother in the face. here expectations are higher than george and bruce's. if he needs a fire lit, his mom will know it and he won't be able to look her in the eye.
He's got to wake up every morning and shave now, and probably every 8 hours after that. Maybe his wrist is sore, tennis elbow, repetitive motion something. Is the guy ever NOT clean shaven anymore? He looks he shaves right before game time, every game.
I cant even think about the playoffs. I hope his lawyer was smart enough to get him an out clause.
