If the Rangers plan on signing Richards on July 1,they will need every penny available in the summer cap. Wade Redden returns. Chris Drury's situation. 4 potential arbitration cases-Callahan,Dubinsky,Boyle and Sauer. 1 non arbitration case in Anisimov. Gilroy is also arbitration eligible. No bonus cushion next season. Redden hurts the flexibility in the summer cap and lack of a bonus cushion hurts the 11-12 cap.

The Rangers aren't trading for Souray. $2.7M off re-entry hurts their ability to sign Richards. They gained $1.2M in the Wolski trade. Souray has to clear re-entry waivers to play in the NHL.

Mark Spector did a story on Souray last week. Someone from the Hershey Bears PR staff tipped him off about Kevin Maxwell scouting the game. Scouts scout games. Or Souray's agent Paul Theofanous tipped off Spector to generate interest in his client. He wants Souray out of the AHL but can't do anything about it.

Souray would have to go through re-entry waivers, so no guarantee Rangers would get him.

OKay.. Follow me for a second..

I know Drury has a NMC.. Whatever.

Let's say we traded Drury to Edmonton for Sheldon Souray...

In order to recall Souray, he'd have to pass through waivers right?

Let's say someone else claims him on recall and we don't get Souray.

We still lose the Drury contract and don't take on anything at all.

Is this even possible? Who cares if we lose out on Souray. I'd do this in a heartbeat.

There's your money to sign Brad Richards in the offseason. Boom.

He has had a couple of injuries this season?

Sather has personally gone to watch him play?

For ****s sake...why oh why sather? Please stay away.

No...that's too logical.

I don't want Souray but is there any other logical reason that the Rangers are heavily scouting his minor league team unless they're seriously considering this? Checking out chocolate recipes?

Souray is NOT the solution for our abysmal PP. We're not winning the cup this year. Hey, you know who's a good PPQB? That BRAD RICHARDS guy.

What?!?!? No no no the BIG FISH Sheldon souray, a measly old prospect is too much of a safe bet and we all can't ooze over the possibility of getting souray or say how much we don't want him.

That was the first thing I thought, they've got some solid prospects, but its NY 2+2=8 lol

Souray...meh. Not that interested. His cap hit next year would not be good at all to swallow if there are ambitions of getting Richards. At halfprice on reentry...???Better rental options out there imo...
Hmmm???

Trading something like Gilroy, Drury, Wash 2nd to EDM for Souray + MPS (Omark?) would be a dream. But EDM would NEVER do this. So it is not an option either.

So I think this is not a good road to venture down - both as an ev trade (only assets we that could/should give up would be Drury and I really doubt he waives his NMC to the cold Canadian plains and/or EDM would accept what we want to dump on them) or on grabbing him on re-entry (which we probably will not be first team to sign SS anyway --- Hello Mr Snow...).

Next rumor please!

Only way I'd be happy with this move is if Drury is going the other way.

Swapping Drury for Souray 1) shaves off almost 1.5M from our cap and 2) if Souray sucks we can waive him. We can't waive Drury.

Drury or Redden for Souray. You can throw in Christensen, Eminger or Gilroy too to shed some salary. Other than that, no to Souray.

And if we're so desperate for a hard shot (which is all what Souray is essentially), why not go with a cheaper, younger option in Valentenko?

I'd rather get McCabe. He's got a cannon too and he's still in the NHL. Plus he's a UFA at the end of the season.

Drury for Souray is not possible. Chris would have to agree to lose a lot of $$ to Canadian taxes, even if he would like to play for Renney. That would be good trade for everyone, but...

Lets look at the positive. If there is ONE thing he could help with, it's the Power play.

A fresh highly motivated 2nd chance for the human cannon could have an upside.

Let me just go on record as saying I think this is a horrible idea.

2.7 over 2 is a lot of cheese for a barely capable NHL defenseman.

if sather does this without trading drury it completely goes against the person i thought he has become.

he really hasn't done anything TO stupid the past 2 years. This contract is way to big for a guy who sucks.

So let me get this straight.

Even if they were to trade for him he'd have to clear waivers?

So it's really just a waiver deal, unless Sather has some ridiculous card to play that involves moving Redden

If it's Drury, I have respect for Drury because he waived his NMC to go to Edmonton which is a frosty place where no one wants to go. If it's anyone else, I'm really not interested.

I know everyone has been to Hershey but wasn't the AHL allstar and skills competition just there. Could have been an opportunity to do some scouting.

NMC aside, Drury makes more than Souray. It's unlikely Edmonton would unload Souray only to add to their payroll. Redden not only makes more as well, but he has multiple years beyond 2012. It doesn't make sense for the Oilers.

Valentenko may have a hard shot, but he's not a factor on the powerplay at all. I like him as a player, but he has all of 1 goal & 7 points playing regularly for the Whale in the AHL. How is that going to help the Rangers' powerplay? I don't want him for many reasons, but Souray at least has a history of scoring on the powerplay.
