Edited the topic because it was kind of misleading.

Doesn't sound like he'll be playing for the Islanders.

I'm surprised the Islanders didn't come knocking at my door. I play a mean game as a roller hockey goalie.

I really hope this is just a temporary fix and that Snow is working the phones to bring someone in for the rest of the season. I mean, there have to be better options out there, off the top of my head:

-Jeff Deslauriers. Lost the back-up role to Devan Dubnyk and is having trouble getting starts in the AHL because of the stellar play of Martin Gerber. Played really well in the Spengler Cup and is still quite young and an impending UFA. No risk here whatsoever for the Isles.
-Curtis Sanford. Playing well for the Canadiens' farm team. On an NHL minimum deal that expires this July.
-Barry Brust. Playing well for the Senators' AHL affiliate and doesn't have an NHL deal so could be signed ASAP.
-Johan Backlund or Mike Leighton. Neither one of them seem to be in the Flyers' plans this season. Leighton might be too expensive for the Isles and Philly might not be willing to give up Backlund, however.
-Matt Climie or Al Montoya: Climie has been a top-notch goalie for in the AHL, is serving as the Coyotes #3 goalie. Montoya looks like he'll never pan out as an NHL regular, but why not give him a chance?
-Mike Smith: On an expiring deal that will leave him an UFA and is now with Tampa's minor team.
-Tyler Weiman: has been one of the best goalies in the AHL over the last few years. With Luongo and Schneider cruising, has virtually no shot at an NHL gig
Sanford isn't available. He isn't untouchable but the Islanders would have to overpay to get him.

I know that he is only a minor leaguer but he is the best goaltender in the AHL and he is by far Hamilton's MVP. Trading him would probably just ruin Hamilton's season (who has a chance to go far in the playoffs). Also, he is the only decent goaltender that we have in the minors, the rest are unproven prospects (Mayer, Delmas and Simila).

I wouldn't trade Sanford for anything under a 3rd round pick or a decent prospect.

Not too mention we would not want Mayer playing in the show if an injury happened after dealing Sanford. Sanford is a very good #3 goalie for an organization.

Not like you wanna sign someone who might actually stop a puck and win a game.

When they call him up does it mean Nobby goes on waivers because they don't need him?

I'd like to imagine this is just Matt Martin wearing a fake mustache, with Wang saving money by having one guy play two roles.

"Hey Matt Martin, we'd like to get an interview with the new goalie, is he around?"
"Uh...yeah, turn around and I'll get him for you"

Jeff Deslauriers could be had for nothing.

I mean the situation isn't really different than what it was a few weeks ago.
NHL : Poulin, Lawson AHL : Koskinen, Martin

If Poulin/Lawson get injured, they would rather have Martin warming the bench than Koskinen.

Anyway if I was Gath Snow I would go and get Smith. I mean they could probably get also a pick or maybe a low-end prospect along with Smith.

Maybe something like Smith + Mihalik for a random player (ie Joel Martin) could work

I doubt he ever suits up for a game with the Isles, unless another goalie gets hurt. Koskinen will probably be called up.

Martin has already been in Bridgeport on a PTO. He'll be backing up Poulin and Koskinen will be getting the entire load in Bridgeport. The Islanders wouldn't have signed Martin unless he was getting called up. I'd expect him to be recalled for the next Isles game and sent back down when Lawson is ready to go.

Koskinen recalled today.

I wonder who they'll sign to help out in Bridgeport as Lawson is still injured.

For crying out loud, why doesn't Snowey suit up himself at this point? Or how about Wang going out and getting that sumo wrestler he wanted in goal a few years back?

That makes no sense... Why sign Martin to a SPC 2-way. Oh well, nothing this organization does makes sense...

Are Islander fans really complaining about this? There is no chance we make the playoffs this season, Streit isnt coming back, and DP is out until late March. This DP injury basically just gave us a top 3 draft pick for 2011. Not that I dont want them to win but this season is done, so for those of you that want a better goalie to come in have to be kidding themselves.
