I don't know if Rangers brass is willing to give up MDZ yet, he's had a horrible year though. Want no part of Souray. But our PP is horrible and we need someone to actually have some sense on the PP.

Would a 2nd and Grachev do it? If he resigns the 2nd becomes a 1st.

Than the Rangers can continue to suck ass on the PP. Watching the game today and their PP is embarassing. If you're not willing to give up anything for a guy like Kaberle than you're not going to go far in the playoffs with a PP like that.

That would hurt my feelings, if I were a Rangers fan.

Meh, just being honest ;P Have to give up something to get something. But I'm sure NY would be willing to give up something decent for Kabs.

Both are very risky as the first PPQB specialist, but as 2nd PPQB may get some production out of them. Kuba is looking bad right now but probably a good chunk of it is due to lack of Ottawa offence.

McCabe would be the best option in my honest opinion

My assessment of Pitkanen overall would be that he is a roaming offensive d-man who for all his offensive merits, is pretty much useless defensively. he pinches well, although sometimes at the wrong times and without having any coverage back, but he is a great PPQB and is good at a breakout pass. He has regressed this year, mostly in the last 20-30 games. Im not trying to make him look worse or better than he has been. He has the worst +/- on the defense in the last 20 games at -6 (while the most obviously horrible d-man we had last year who has been surging this year, Jay Harrison, sits at a +8) and his offense has tailed off a bit, but when he is on his game, he is amazing to watch. Seems like he just isnt on his game much this season. He is a UFA at season end, so a true rental. He jst may not be benefitting much from the play of Mo's system, which focuses more on a defensive game than Lavi's did, and Joni's pretty much no-defense defensive game is pretty much useless. In a system, on a team, who relies a LOT on offense from the backend and not as much on defense, the way I see NYR, he may fit in nicely.

What's your definition of "decent"?

it would just depend on what was coming back, from a fan perspective. if we could get a good defensive defenseman, or a top-6 winger, preferably someone who really could play with Staal, then we could work a deal. Preferably it would be the true stay at home defensive defenseman. We are playing Joni as the #1D and he really isnt. #2/#3 sure. But he is getting overworked, and it is starting to show in his play. The one thing we havent had is any offensive production from White, but if Joni leaves, then that puts White back into an offensive role (he has been playing the defensive partner part on most of the pairings he has been on with us), so we can hope some of those numbers lost from Joni will be covered by that move. Corvo has been a wrecking ball offensively as of late (hell, the last 20-30 games) and McBain has been playing well, contributing offensively at ES and on the PP. Not to say that they all will replace the scoring by Pitkanen, but right now we have an overabundance of ODs and basically NO DDs (Gleason really the only one, and he is having a real off year). We need a #1 D who is defensive minded and stay at home. Dont think the Rangers have anyone in that mold we could pull that we would really want, but just throwing it all out there.

Would hate to see Joni in NYR, though I don't know if he'd be a good fit there. Not completely sure though.
