Philly to Long Island ... and back?

Looking to come to see a couple of games in March. One of the games is Flyers vs Islanders on Long island. My question is could one travel by train to the game on the Island and take the train back to Philly after the game? I think I got it fgured out how to do it, but was wondering if one could or want to come back after the game.

Thanks for any replies.

Bob

Yes, but it's very expensive to do so. LIRR runs till 2 am, as long as you can find a decent Amtrack line you should be fine. Basically you'd have to take the train from the 30th Station to New York Penn, then from there to Uniondale via LIRR (what's worse is that there is almost no direct line to the statdium, you'd have to backtrack from Jamica or take the commuter rail then commuter bus).

It's much better if you just rent a car and drive, since Uniondale, NY isn't really that bad of a drive. (It's very easy if you just drive in to Long Island straight from Staten Island rather than Manhattan)

Weekend in Philly

Hey Guys, I was just down visiting my boy this weekend
went to the 76ers game on Friday night and Flyers game Saturday.

I love Philly - such a sports town !!
Since Claude left after the 3rd quarter to go sleep friday night. me and my buddy we took the subway back downtown and this guy was wearing a Giants hat. I thought he was actually gonna get murdered loll I think there was like 20 people booing/chirping him and singing the Eagles song and just going nuts on him loll loved it !!

great bar, great people and just hot girls down there damn !!!

Saturday's game against the Devils was alright, not really a great game. not sure if anyone was there...but I always enjoy the fat guy dancing in the 3rd deck !!
I know everyone chirps Shelley in this place but that guy is actually pretty cool, one of the funniest guy in the dressing room.

can't wait to go back down again, its always a good time

OT: Best place to chill after a game

Hey Flyers fans,

I'm an Oilers fan and I'll be coming to Philadelphia on March 8 when the Oilers play. I was wondering which sports bar or gathering is ideal for fans after a game or even before a game. I've been looking at some places and I just want some of your input.

Please and thank you.

Oh and PS, I'll be wearing my Taylor Hall jersey that day, don't be hatin

Check out Chickie and Pete's either beforehand or afterwards, very closer to the WFC and solid food.

There's a bar in the arena.

There is also Chickie's and Pete's at 15th and Packer Ave, which isn't that far from the sports complex.

Some places are in this thread: http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=408887

AT&T Pavilion in the WFC itself gets a pretty good crowd right before and after games, otherwise Chickie and Pete's is good as CannonMTG and GKJ said.

Ah, thanks for that thread, I guess you moderators can move this thread there. Didn't mean to take up a thread space

Lol have you ever even been there? It's not even a strip joint. The girls aren't even topless unless you get a dance which is in the back where nobody else can even see. It's basically a bar with girls dance on stage in bikinis. If you think cheerleaders is trashy at all I don't even know what to tell you. You must like a sheltered like. Check out daydreams or Show and Tell if you want trash.

I'm too lazy to go through the thread but I'm gonna ask this again and I don't mean this to be a rude way.

Flyers fans aren't as bad as the media portray them right? Like as an Oilers fan wearing a taylor hall jersey on the day the Oilers play teh flyers, I shouldn't expect beer thrown or get beat up right?

I just hope I can interact with flyers fans before and after a game and talk hockey and be civil about it. Even though I'm an oilers fan, I'm a hockey fan too.

Wearing a jersey might get you taunts, but probably not considering the lack of recent history with the Oilers. If you're civil, nothing will happen.

Still, doesn't hurt to ask... where are you sitting?

Maybe I shouldn't ruin our "reputation" but the media's portrayal of Flyers fans is hyperbolic. I've been to 3 away games in the past year. One in NJ during the playoffs, Boston back in December & NYC a couple weeks ago. I would have to say NYC and Newark were just as hostile if not more than I have ever seen in Philly.

You'll be okay. Like the other poster said, with the lack of rivalry the trash talk toward you should be limited if any. As long as you behave yourself - meaning not making eye contact - you'll be okay. The last time the Pen's were in town, at least in my section, we were very civil towards the Pen fans.

Upper bowl section 223

I'm guessing thats where all the rowdy fans are?

Anyways, I don't mind taunts, especially from flyers fans and knowing their intense passion, if I get the "******* ******* *******" chants thrown at me, I would take that as a complement

Looking forward to that game, GO OILERS!

As long as you don't act like an idiot, you should be fine. Although, it's dollar dog night that night, so people will have more to spend on beer.

Yeah rowdier fans tend to be in the upper levels, but you might not hear a peep all night. There will probably be two ignorant fans around you that "Ole" thinking it's something fun to do to all Canadian teams, that happened near me when we played the Sens...

Hey thanks for the upside. I'm not gonna lie, I respect the flyers organization because they're one of the best runned professional hockey team sin the past few decades. I really respect the passion of flyers fans and despite what I hear from the media about their hostilities, I am always curious to experience what its like to enter Wachovia Centre as an visiting team fan

A non-hockey question for those in Philly

I'm a bruins fan from Massachusetts who has relatives in Philadelphia. Next weekend I'm heading down there to spend the weekend with family I havent seen in 2 years.

As you guys may know, Philly is quite famous for cheesesteaks. There are many cheesesteak joints in Philly, but the 2 most famous places are the 2 located directly across the street from each other, Geno's and Pat's

For those who live in philly and have eaten there, can you recommend which one is better. "Better" can be broken down into sub-categories like service, food quality, how long are the lines, cleanliness etc.

So I ask which one, Pats or Genos, do you guys recommend and why.

Thanks

Very true. But the answer to this question lies in the movie Brewster's Millions
