Tim Connolly - Kyle Clifford?

FROM THE BUFFALO NEWS

Quote:

One fit for the Kings could be none other than Sabres center Tim Connolly, who's capable of playing either wing and help on the power play. Connolly needs a change in scenery just as much as the Sabres need to change his scenery.

Perhaps the Kings would be interested in unloading a prospect such as Kyle Clifford, a 20-year-old with a thick backbone. The former second-round pick had eight points and 81 penalty minutes in 48 games and was finding his way.
I myself don't think it would be good for us. Unless Clifford is sent as part of a package for a young center in a three team deal.

Clifford is their McCormick/Kaleta. It wouldn't happen.

And at this point, barring a Connolly hot streak it would be for a bottom six forward with some upside.

The Kings drafted Clifford in the 2nd round. They think he has upside and certainly wont trade him for a soon to be UFA.

Im a habs fan and have love Clifford as his rookie season progresses, and would hate to see him in my division that much said, usually you dont see rookies getting traded, none the less that could kill their confedence and he has had a great impact for the kings thus far, hes not going anywhere, hes got more value to the kings then what a team is willing to trade

I don't like the idea of losing Clifford and Connolly doesn't seem to be an answer for either second line center or first line left wing, which is the two positions we either could use an upgrade at (2nd line center) or there is a gaping hole (1st line left wing). He is often injured, been close to a decade since he has played anywhere near 80+ games, and I don't know if he can put up 20 goals per year, even next to Kopitar, especially given that we acquired Sturm as a stopgap for the same role, I think Sturm can beat out Connolly for the job. Seems like a waste of assets if you ask me.

Clifford is awesome. Fan favorite along with Simmonds. He and Simmonds will be on the Kings' third line for a long time, if all goes well. Doubt the Kings would trade him, he just wouldn't have the same value in a trade.

Absolutely correct.

Especially so when you consider that we haven't even begun to see Clifford's offensive game yet. As time goes on I think that he will become a 20 20 guy and with his grit I wouldn't rush to deal him for anything other than a significant improvement on the wing and Connolly simply isn't one.

Sturm is just one of many other options.

Clifford is a much superior player to McCormick and Kaleta, unless by this you meant "fan favourite."

He's got more upside than either, but they're all at about the same level right now. But yeah, the crux of my post was that he was a fan favorite.

Yeah at this point in his career he's no better than a Kaleta or McCormick.

Sounds more like wishful thinking than an actual rumor. No way the Kings trade Clifford for a soon to be UFA.

Again, Bucky Gleason wrote this. Lend it no credence. Gleason despises Connolly, even moreso than the average fan who just wants Connolly off the team. You have to understand Bucky's motives. He's creating fictional trade scenarios so that in the event Buffalo makes a playoff push and elects to hang onto him, Bucky can write for the next four years about how they should've traded him for someone like Clifford at this year's deadline, who Bucky "heard may have been available," but they elected to keep Connolly.

If you look at Gleason's writing over the last two months, much of it comes off as, "Hey, Terry Pegula, do this!" He's been trying to create momentum to get Regier fired, and now he's doing the same for moving Connolly--not that he's wrong in wishing for that, but much of this is self-serving bull**** that he'll shove down his readers' throats for years and say, "Remember when I said they should ______, but nobody listens to poor ole' Bucky."

He's garbage.

They don't write there is a trade coming.

It was just thinking like........ uhmm.. what could we get for Stafford... maybe Cliffird form L.A.
The writer could even use names from other teams here.

Clifford is Loved by his teammates, just watch the video of his first goal. All his on ice teammates went directly to get the puck and then congratulated him. Dude is well liked and would kill the locker room if he was moved in this deal. No Go!

Stafford isn't being traded unless it's in a package for a top-6 center, or an almost-NHL ready center with top-6 potential. In LA's case, Buffalo would probably be looking for Loktionov or Moller.
