Morgantti at his usual antics

"By the middle of the season, the Capitals will be frantic to find a taker for Jaromir Jagr. When in doubt, the usual suspect will be the New York Rangers."

Will these people ever give it up?

It's not as if the Blueshirts have a monopoly on late-season panic trades.

With Jagr's groin, nothing short of a total buyout is going to get rid of him.

That might not be such a bad idea with the new CBA coming up.

That would mean 55 million upfront unless they can negotiate something else and Jagr seems to be very unwilling to do so.

Can't you just picture the scenario. It's late February and the Rangers are, as usual, on the playoff bubble and treading water. McPhee's eyes are as big as saucers and wide with fright at the thought of being stuck with Jagr's contract. In order to help solidify that playoff spot, Sather trades Tutin, Murray and a 2nd rounder for Jagr.

Please don't give Slats any ideas! He might take them as a sign of encouragement.

I know he really does not deserve the benefit of the doubt, but what makes you think that Slats would offer anything of substance for Jagr. If the above situation plays out, the Caps would be happy to simply move the contract. I could see them getting a Kovalev like package for Jagr (wouldn't it be something if it included Joel Bouchard? Traded twice by the Rangers: once for Alex Kovalev and once for Jaromir Jagr.)

Actually, that was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. Personally, I wouldn't take Jagr and his contract if the Caps were giving him away. And if they can't give give him away, it will prove to be a financial disaster for that team.

I agree. I want no part of Jagr. Let em go to Detroit.

You wouldn't do Carter for Jagr?

I wouldn't. Jagr is on the hook for 55M over the next five seasons. I don't want to make that kind of financial commitment to someone who is over 30 and whos production has declined in WAS.

I take it you mean for the Flyers, in actuality he's from Boston and is more a Bruins fan than anything.

Regardless, he's an unabashed Ranger hater.

I wouldn't. You know, for all the supposed (and actual) irresponsibility of the Rangers' management, they're in pretty good shape with only six players under contract going into the CBA war. I'd be curious to know how many teams have handled that aspect better than Slats has. (I hope he doesn't go and make me eat my words now.)

Well, Slats will be dumping his biggest blunders after this season, Lindros and Malakhov. We'll see if he's dumb enough to overpay for a bunch of old men past their prime.

Oops. I should have said "I hope he's not stupid enough to get a bunch of overpaid old men AGAIN..."
