this isnt the same as Nabby. They are waiving him to be sent down to the AHL. He is not ready to play in the NHL and anyone who claims him would have to keep him on the NHL roster or waive him again, and with his injury it isn't worth it

Oh that makes sense. Well good for him, hope he's healthy and gets back to the NHL soon.

I guess he can't complain about making $105,000 to essentially re-hab, and then try to make it up to the NHL next season. Good to see him make the comeback, especially since a lot of people thought his career was over, honestly myself included.

The problem is that he'll be subject to re-entry.

I thought re-entry didn't apply when his NHL salary is so low? wouldn't it just be normal waivers on the way back up again?

Outside of a drastic need for him due to injury this season, if he does do the "rehab" stint I suggested, you don't have to go through re-entry in the off-season, correct?

Ah, may be right there. But not sure if age/experience caveats would put him back on the list.

Well, he's 1-year so it's moot. However, basically the entire system resets in the offseason. So, Leighton and Walker would get waived again next year if they wanted to put 'em back on the Phantoms.

Yeah I missed the one year part. Oops.

Anyway, so TSN says:

Quote:
The two-way deal will allow Emery to take longer then the standard two-week conditioning AHL stint without having to go through waivers to be recalled, however due to Emery's age and NHL experience, he would need to clear waivers first before the Ducks could send him to Syracuse of the AHL. Should a team claim him today, he would have to remain on that team's NHL roster for the remainder of the season.
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=352827

So as long has he gets through today, not an issue with Anaheim in the event of drastic injury to goalies.

If he isn't rushed back and does what I said, a rehab stint in the AHL all season, next year I think we'll see him back. I don't think he's be cleared to play/sign with a team unless the doctors were incredibly cautious with his treatment and recovery, so my guess is, barring the condition coming back, he'll eventually work his way back up. But that's a guess more than anything else, which is all anyone can really do now.

Rotweillers have healthier hips than Emery...I suspect the goalie version of Foppa...just saying. Having said this it would be nice for him to regain his form...

I think he'll make it back in some capacity, but I'd be surprised if his career is not severely abbreviated.

It was serious. What mess? The Flyers were never going to sign him, not being the best team in the league with two solid goaltenders and with Leighton and Backlund in the minors. So really everything about Emery was just Flyers fans watching to see what happens.

Any rumors about him signing were just rumors. The thing with rumors is even if the Flyers say "we're exploring their options with Ray Emery" it can be written off as "Flyers potentially signing Emery." Just because they explore the option doesn't mean they actually have any intentions of following it through.

I'd take him back if he wanted to play for the Phantoms but like I said, with Leighton down there he wouldn't fit.

The constant fan reaction in and of itself would constitute a mess. And - even if a good deal of the organizational involvement is pure speculation on our end - we all know that Holmgren is loyal to a fault and there was always a fair chance Ray could wind up back here. Yes, our current overcrowded crease makes it illogical, but it's not like our management has never done something illogical.

I'm just glad someone else has him, so hopefully the organization and its fans can move on from the Emery Experiment, which turned out to be an abject disaster.

He played great when healthy for us, he just had a crazy injury that no one could have predicted.

Obviously there is no room for him here, but I am glad to see him get another chance.

I seriously think people with your opinion don't understand the severity of Emery's injury:
