Andrew Peters Retires

As per Bob McKenzie on Twitter:

Quote:
Ray Emery (ANA) on waivers. So is VAN's Andrews Peters, the $125 type, which allows for mutual release from contract.
Contract spot, here we come.

Addition by subtraction. Nice that we'll get another contract spot opened up.

I believe the CBA states that every player must be given enough $$ to buy a Greyhound ticket home upon Mutual Release.

Not buried. If he was buried, the Canucks would've plunked him in Victoria. Instead, a deal was worked out so he can stay in Rochester and play without having to move to Manitoba or the East Coast, and continue earning his salary.

Have you any idea what you are talking about?

I'm hoping they use this spot to sign Flood and then call him up for a game or two to see what we have. From all accounts, he is our best dman on the moose.

I don't mind Flood, but I hope they use it on some college free agents first, then sign Flood during the off season this year, when some more contract spots open up. This move is pretty much a precursor to possible trade deadline / college signings that could happen, given the timing of it. College Free Agents will sign anywhere from March to May, while Flood will probably still be around when offseason rolls around.

For example...

Quote:
Every year, there's at least one NCAA free agent who has NHL GMs hurdling over each other in pursuit. This year, it's Stephane Da Costa.

Da Costa, a 21-year-old Merrimack College centre, had some serious offers from NHL teams last season, but decided to return for a second year of school after playing in the world championship for his native France. It certainly hasn't hurt him, as he's gotten stronger and continues to score at above a point-per-game pace despite being the defensive focal point of every opponent.

Most impressive? Da Costa's leadership and on-ice performance has Merrimack poised to end a run of 21-straight losing seasons. So who's interested?

"Everyone," says one scout.

...

That is an advantage for teams who've shown no fear of plugging newly signed free-agents right into the roster like Ottawa, Toronto or Minnesota. But Da Costa's decision to return to the NCAA for this season convinced other GMs that he's not afraid to wait and do what's best for his development.

The list is long - others who've been seen a lot at Merrimack games include San Jose, Nashville, Vancouver, Washington, Anaheim and Pittsburgh. That's in no particular order and I'm sure I'm missing a few.

He was loaned to the Rochester Americans. Missed curfew and was released from the loan. The Moose refused to assign him to a roster spot and the Canucks couldn't find anywhere else to loan him, so he hasn't had a team since November 2010.

Not doing him any favours by keeping him on the contract list, and he certainly isn't doing the organization any favours either. Makes sense all around to walk away.

Nathan Paetsch was also removed from the Americans roster for the same curfew violation, but the Canucks organization managed to loan him to the Syracuse Crunch.

College free agents don't count as contract slots until the following season (which is why they sign as ATOs with the AHL affiliate of the team that signed them instead of being assigned directly).

Right, my bad. Brainfart with contract slots.

"Unconditional Waivers" means the process by which the rights to a
Player are offered to all other Clubs, without a right of recall at a Waiver price of one hundred and twenty-five dollars ($125) prior to a Club exercising its right to terminate a
Player's SPC pursuant to Article 13 of this Agreement and Paragraph 13(a) of the SPC.

So does he stop getting paid, too? I don't get why he'd agree to this if that's the case.

Da Costa looks good and is on Merrimack where Canucks prospect Joe Cannata is the goalie (and the only player on that team currently drafter by an NHL club.

Maybe his agent found him a deal somewhere else. KHL seems willing to sign North American goons.
