Pittsburgh - Ottawa

To Pittsburgh
Milan Michalek

To Ottawa
Dustin Jeffrey
Tom Kühnhackl
Pittsburgh 2011 2nd rd pick

- Pens get a Michalek who has looked good recently, plays a solid two-way game and would look sweet with Crosby... could pot 30+

- Sens get a 22 year old two-way player just breaking in who has Reinprecht potential, a solid looking OHL rookie, and what should be a late 2nd (55-60)

No thanks. Can't afford to give up Jeffrey. He's been too solid recently for another Michalek boy (while it would be awesome to have brothers). Plus, Kühnhackl seems like a solid prospect.

Don't want any of those players from Pittsburgh. Michalek is far from perfect but healthy he is one of the few bonafide top line wingers we have.

Value wise it's good but I wouldn't want to move Kuhnhackl yet, he's had a promising start to his career in the OHL.

Awful. A bunch of mid level prospects for a top line player on a team that needs more top 6 forwards.

I don't think this deal excites either side. Zbynek and Milan would probably love it though.

Ottawa shouldn't be trading Michalek when his value is horribly low because of how poorly he has played this year

And Pittsburgh would have trouble Michaleks absoring 4.33 million salary into there cap space after this season.

Expect Pittsburgh to grab a guy in the 2-3 million range in free agency this year. Someone like Ryder, Strum, Cole, Tanguay to join Kunitz, Crosby, Malkin, Stall as scoring forwards.

I like Michalek but I think he's overpaid. We could get more for our money if we're trading for a $4+ million player.

Wouldn't agree purely on the basis of losing Jeffrey and Kuhnhackl who looks like a really promising player.

I don't think either team would be too happy for this.

For Ottawa, Jeffrey could be a reasonably good NHL'er but he's not as good as Michalek. Kuhn and the 2nd round pick are 3+ years away from contributing, if at all. So this trade is a big time net setback in the immediate future.

For Pittsburgh, this is a team that doesn't have a ton of assets in the form of skilled wingers. Giving up a cheap player just breaking into the NHL, plus a good prospect and a relatively high pick is a lot of assets to spare...Especially for a guy with a bit of an injury history.

Badly structured package. Too many Pens assets of a too high cumulative cost, and yet without any individual asset of a value that is remotely close to Michalek. Fewer but better from Pens would improve it.

Lol, obviously some Sens fan saw DJ Jazzy Jeff's numbers, and is looking to cash in on the Penguins recent injury woes. Not going to happen.

Pens actually need to hold onto their centers at the moment.

If Pens can make it work from a Cap stand point, I'd do it.

Do you believe that any of the assets you proposed to Ottawa will become better players than Michalek is? Because if they turn out to all be 3rd liners or borderline top 6 players then you haven't addressed a need for Ottawa adequately enough to warrant trading Michalek.

If Craig Patrick was still around, I could see it.

But Kovalev is the anti-thesis of a Shero/Bylsma player.

Jeffrey would instantly become the best forward we have on our team or in our prospect pool 25 or younger.

I know last year he put up 70+Pts in the AHL as a winger
This year in the A moved to C at 22 had put up 40GP 45Pts 150Shots and leads the AHL with 6SH goals

In the 11GP he was called up for so far he has 4G and 6Pts...

I think the 22 year old is going to be an outstanding two-way forward.

Yeah, I think Jeffrey will turn out to be a really solid 2nd/3rd line guy and a valuable piece to a NHL team. He might not have the pure skill to be a big point 1st line guy, but he should be a very good player for a while.

But Kuhlenhackl is sort of an unknown. He might develop into a top 6 NHL'er, he might be a career minor leaguer. He's having a great season in Juniors, but there's no guarantee he's going to have a successful pro career. He could, but who knows.

A 2nd, similiarly, could be a valuable piece or a waste considering how Ottawa drafts/develops the player. Huge unknown.

That's a big step-back in the short-term for a team that is kind of shaky and not really a trade a GM makes when his position and standing seems to be in jeopardy/transition.

I'd love to add Milan, but I wouldn't be interested in moving a roster player like Jeffrey who has been great thus far.

What about something based around our 1st?

1st+Kuhnhackl?
