I don't think a trade would be workable. I don't see the Oilers giving up rebuild chips to Ottawa in a deal. I'd like a crack at Spezza (unlike many oiler fans) but I'm not sure they would go for the type of players we want to move.

That's what he said. and I agree with it.

2 rebuilding teams automatically make for bad trading partners.

This is just as likely to happen as Ovechkin going to Nashville.

Please can we ban all mention of trading Spezza?

Here's what Ottawa would require to trade Spezza:

Any asset with a high likelihood of becoming a top line center, be it a top 3 pick in this draft or a prospect

And

Any asset to sufficiently justify the risk of trading Spezza and losing their top line center directly proportionate to the risk of the first asset.

I believe this is sensible and rational on Ottawa's part.

If Spezza is so awful why even make terrible offers?

Oh. So the majority of HF was wrong? Okay. Still wrong I guess. Yeah, so in essence you're saying that people who said that Chara, at his size could really still develop were wrong and I'm just making this all up. Damn dude, I need to lay off the crack.

The Oilers look to be on pace for similar numbers, don't they? Lol indeed smart guy.

And as per the thread topic, the Oilers won't trade what Ottawa would want for Spezza. Not even close.

Spezza would be a great fit for the Oilers. He's still young, he's a fantastic passer and it really seems like he would be great with the young guys on the team. He would be the perfect #1 center on the team. He doesn't need to be a franchise player, they've got Hall, Eberle and MPS to spread the burden of carrying the team, not to mention Hemsky if he would stay there.

Oh, come on. Not every team that once sucked and had plenty of great young talents ended up doing what those three teams mentioned did. Might want to wait for the winning to even start to make such claims. Not that I'm saying it won't happen, there's enough reasons to be excited for the future as an Oil fan right now, just that it's not the time to make those comparisions just yet.

SOOOO much fail in this comment:

Quote:
I suppose it would take more than just the Oilers #1 pick to get Spezza, but the Oilers should not, under any circumstances, be parting with Hall, Eberle, Paajarvi, Omark, Pitlick, Lander, Petry, Hamilton, Dubnyk or Marincin. I am not sure I would support Hemsky or Penner plus the #1 pick for Spezza either.
So Oilers "should not under any circumstances" deal players like Omark, Pitlick, Lander, Petry, Hamilton, Marincin, Dubnyk but yet we should deal our potential 1st overall pick. Only HockeyBuzz.

yes agreed, they are so far on pace for having and endless number of crappy seasons.
One of the teams you are comparing Edmonton to happens to have the best player in the world and probably the 3rd or 4th best player in the world.
the other not only had Toews and Kane but also Keith and Seabrooke on defence.

so who are edmonton's Keith and Seabrooke? or do you not have a current or future team canada pairing on your roster?

Edmonton is young, edmonton has young players who look very promising, that's where the similarity ends.

From that article, I would love to have Gaborik in Edmonton, that was always one of my favourite dreams though. I actually think Jason Spezza would benefit in Edmonton with the winger's we have to provide him with but at the same time I will not overpay for a center like Spezza.

Want to make an Avatar bet? Come October, I'd be surprised to see him there. If they're talking rebuild, and Alfie is staying put, what tradeable assets do they have to rebuild with? Who would net the most?

I don't think anyone expected Keith and Seabrook to end up as good as they are, but for arguments sake, Petry and Marincin are looking like they could be. Keith and Seabrook looked no better than Petry does right now then, and Marincin has a ton of upside. In 05/06 or 06/07, if you asked anyone if Keith and Seabrook would end up as two of Canada's defensemen at the Olympics, you would have been laughed at.

And who is to say that Taylor Hall doesn't end up a top 5 or 10 player in the NHL? Remember that Ovechkin was a year older in that rookie season, and Crosby had Lemieux, where Hall has...Horcoff? And how can they be equal in "endless crappy seasons" when all three of those teams didn't have "endless" crappy seasons, and Edmonton, so far, hasn't had near the streak of garbage seasons those teams did?

Yeah, sure. And that fat chick I slept with COULD have become a 10 once she got naked. But the cold reality is that once she got naked, she was still Petry and Marincin.
