I thought players signed after December 15th could not play in the AHL per AHL bylaws. When the Blues signed Svatos there was a discussion about how they couldnt send him to the minors and that he would end up being a healthy scratch every game once the team was healthy

Interesting to see if he gets claimed as you would figure being potential damaged goods a team would want him to spend some time in the minors to see game action. If he is claimed that team has to keep him on their roster for the rest of the year.

Odd, considering they have Hiller and Mac already.

Close.

Emery is also coverered by the Veteran Minor League Players exemption - because he has played 180+ pro games AND has played less than 40 NHL games last season and less than 80 NHL games over the last two seasons.

The Veteran Minor League Players exemption was added as an amendment after the CBA was signed (but before the text was released to the public) in response to threatened anti trust suit by the PHPA (the AHL PA) - who claimed that the then $75K, now $105K, threshold for Re-Entry Waivers acted as a de-facto AHL salary cap, affecting players who were not party to the NHL/NHLPA CBA.

Good for him. Hopefully he can salvage some of that potential he once had.

I don't like it for the Ducks. Emery hasn't played in over a year and I can't see him ever getting back to respectability. But maybe he can turn it around, we will see. But hang on, the Islanders might just have an interest.

It was actually February 1, 2010 (Flyers won 3-0 in Calgary, it was that game where Jokinen was getting traded to the Rangers, but they needed him to play that game) the last time Emery played, which seems longer ago than it is.

How can you not like it?

This represents 0 risk by the Ducks, if he finds form then great, if not he's off the books at the end of the season.

He won't even be with the big team for at least 6 weeks if he clears waivers, so it's not like he'd be affecting our results anyway.

If clears waivers Anaheim is free to call him up whenever they want without having to put him through re-entry waivers.

If he had a one way contract or two-way contract with an AHL salary exceeding $105,000 then he would have to clear re-entry waivers upon being called up.

I hope the Avs pick Emery up. Even if he didn't have any AHL conditioning he'd still be an upgrade over Craig Anderson. The guy has given up.

If you are talking about Garth Snow...ruining a trading partner ???? Detroit had no intention of Nabby coming to there team, Detroit prevented any team in playoff contention of getting him.....If you are not talking about Snow please disregard.

Makes sense for Anaheim. Hiller is the back-bone of their team (and for my money the best goaltender in the NHL), their hopes rest on him. Emery provides insurance that McBackup can't provide. Interesting to see if he makes it to California.
