Yeah, and did you hear that the New York Rangers wanna bring #99 back!??! He's gonna sign a 10 year 1.2 billion dollar contract! If Hockeybuzz mentions it, it's gotta be true!

HockeyBuzz: I'm going to punch Eklund in the Face

But I can see this happening, Cogliano, Penner, Smid

But who knows, I wont be shocked to see that and maybe they add a guy like Plante or Pitlick to sparken things up. (Just throwing things out there, don't flame)

Cause I'd love to see a line of Hall-Spezza-Eberle

There's no way in the world Edmonton would give up the #1 overall pick for a player like Spezza he's injury prone soon will be 28 and he's not very good defensively to lean it would be a disaster for Edmonton.

I only skimmed over the first page but I think it's very cute that Ottawa fans think Spezza is worth something on the trade market. That contract is an absolute KILLER guys, I'm sorry it just is. I like Spezza, but listen to ANYONE in the know talk about him. The Sens would dump him for something if they could, but his contract is way too big. The Sens would send him to the Oilers for a lot less than some of you Sens fans seem to think, but they can't nobody will take him. The Oilers have the cap space but they want to build through the draft. Listen to McKenzie, Dreger, whoever, nobody wants that contract. So what do you do? You hang on to him and hope he can stay healthy and put up the huge numbers that he has in the past and with a little luck A) he will be worth something good or B) your team will be rebuilt with him as the centerpiece. It's nothing to get livid over, it's just you wouldn't get anything for the guy if he was to be dealt. You definitly wouldn't get a 1st. Sorry, but who cares? He's a number 1 center and you guys can shed salary elsewhere so why worry about it?

That's fine if you think that but at least give some reasons as to why you think they won't be. Like I'm a diehard Oiler fan and the reasons I could see the rebuild failing are because Kevin Lowe is still hanging around, Tambellini has made some questionable moves in the past, and there have been whisper's around Edmonton that Daryl Katz has meddled with things from time to time (the Horcoff contract, signing Mike Comrie...though Comrie played well here while healthy).

But if you look at the job there scouting staff has done since Stu McGregor took over as head scout (post 07 draft) and how well things are with our cap space and managment seemingly very committed to doing a proper rebuild I don't know if you can say they will be Chicago or Pittsburgh YET but I think it we are definitly on the right track.

7 million for Jason Spezza is the same 7 million for Scott Gomez.

Rangers got McDonagh out of the deal too, as well as freeing up cap space to sign Marion Gabrorik.

Spezza >>>>>>>>>>> Gomez

Not to mention, he is also younger and better then what Gomez was when the Rangers dealt him.

I know it says he is going to the Oilers, but what about this trade package:

To NYR: Spezza (7mil over 5 more years)

To OTT: Anisimov (RFA end of season; still on ELC)
Drury (7.05 mil over 1 year after this)
2nd Round Pick 2011 Draft and/or Mid level prospect

Frees up cap space for OTT in 2 summers instead of having Spezza for all that time when you are trying to rebuild. Anisimov is a projected 2nd liner with great defensive abilities and offensive upside. Drury is there to fill out the cap for this season, fill in a center spot and kill penalties, and OTT has flexibility either way with Kovalev's cap number coming off the books next year. They could buy Drury out after this season is over and gain some more cap space as well.

Rangers get a center who can move the puck and play with Gaborik on the top line without giving up too much.

If Ottawa is desperate to move Spezza and that contract so much, they would accept this in a heartbeat.

Ottawa is not desperate to trade Spezza.

Spezza for Penner and Cogliano? That would set our franchise back 5+ years. There is nothing on the Oilers that is worth trading for Spezza. If we trade him we absolutely must have a potential #1 center coming back. Edmonton has some absolutely amazing young talent, but the closest they come to a #1 center is the statue of Gretzky outside the arena.

Edmonton's first round draft pick in 2011 is going to be a top 3 pick in the draft which = Landeskog, Larsson or Couturier.

I WOULD NEVER TRADE THAT PICK AWAY, ESPECIALLY NOT FOR A BUM LIKE SPEZZA!

You guys are funny. Spezza showed last night why the Oilers can't afford him. He's a top 10 to top 5 centre in the league.

Also for someone who is saying he is bad defensively...you obviously haven't watched a lot of Ottawa hockey. That's ok you're forgiven for your ignorance.

None of those three will ever be as good as Spezza, by the way. We would never trade him for that pick.

Its really almost like talking with 2 year olds.
Is there a maximum iq requirement for oiler fans?
You know, you need to be at least "this" tall to go on this ride, except its a max iq of 86 to post as an oiler fan.
Its somewhere around the ability to turn on the computer.

There's a few good ones but its like they get drowned out by the tidal waves of ignorance in copper and blue.

Christ you guys were gretzky's franchise, how did you all end of like this?

Sure they are, they are two major pieces away, and one of those should be drafted this summer. The other may already be in the system (Martin Marincin).

This trade will never happen!! It didn't come from a reliable source.....close the thread please. Other threads have been closed because the source is unreliable, since this RUMOUR came from HOCKEYBUZZ....which is NOT a reliable source....shut it down.

You can't keep posting this hockeybuzz crap as if it is reliable and keep shutting down other threads that come from a source that is just as credible and reliable.

The partnership between HFboards and Hockeybuzz is a joke!!!

The bottom line is that there is no reason for Ottawa to trade Spezza unless he demanded a trade (Fisher would be their top line center, Yikes) and there's no reason for Edmonton to trade for Spezza and his big contract. Spezza is a good player but there are concerns (whether Sens fans like to admit it or not) about his declining production in recent years and recent injury issues.

His production can easily rebound to what it was a couple of years ago because he is still very young but it's too risky for the Oilers to bank on that especially since he is making $7M/yr for several more years.

The Oilers are doing just fine with the rebuild without chasing rainbows like they've done in the past, it's time to build the top 6 from within and add pieces around the top 6 by trade and free agency.

Perfect wrap up.

Oilers don't want/need Spezza right now
Ottawa shouldn't trade him yet
