Quite the opposite, he's been far better than most would have expected and was solid for us most of the time. Th reason for this move is that we have little goaltender depth beyond Hiller/McE in case of an injury and that it's a zero-risk move. If Emery works out perfectly and becomes an upgrade over McE, we'll take it, otherwise he might still be a little more of insurance than Levasseur or Pielmeier for now. And if he doesn't amaze anyone for now in the AHL, one would guess that we could have a better chance of re-signing him to a similar deal for next season to give him another chance to prove himself, given that goaltending depth issue.

I think it's a no risk move for Anaheim, they aren't signing him to a huge contract nor necessarily need him. Why i really love it? I like Emery and am very glad someone is giving him another shot.

Just extra insurance. The goalies for the Crunch have been absolutely awful this year. Emery is just a safety net in case one of our current 2 goalies get injured. Basicly we'd rather have Emery as our number 3 instead of the current **** in Syracuse. As far as after this year: best case scenario is he does well and maybe he becomes our backup next year. Very doubtful considering Mcbackup has done very well as a backup this year.

Emery will be the first player in the NHL to get hurt passing through waivers.

At the very least he can roundhouse Funwick the next time he gives the guy with the puck 3 point blank shots instead of, you know, stopping him.

Low risk, high reward signing by the Ducks if he makes it down to Syracuse.

I'll edit the title to say he's on waivers.

But no, its just garth snow being a dbag, right?

No one is going to claim him because then he would have to stay in the NHL and he is not NHL ready.

Nabokov made sense, because he was ready to play. Emery admittedly is a good way away, so I don't see how he would make sense for them.

Ah fair enough. I thought hed go, play his 2 weeks in the ahl & be ready. If its more than that, then yea it doesn't make much sense.

Well, it's obviously limited certainty on my part. But from all I've heard, yeah, it's expected it is going to take quite a bit more for him. I would have to believe that that's a reason the Ducks (given McE's solid performances as the backup and the struggling goaltending in Syracuse) wanted him and he was willing to sign (and sign that type of deal) here.

Will he need to go on re entry waivers if they call him up?

He's exempt from 50% re-entry waivers.

Glad he cleared. Good opportunity for him to get back in it, hopefully he does well in the AHL and we can bring him back up later on.

If he doesn't have to pass through waivers if he was on a conditioning stint, why would they take this chance? It's pretty clear what their intentions are for him in the minor leagues.

Thanks. This is good for the Ducks then.

Yes, he may never get back to Philly form but for 500k, it's worth the risk.

And if he does get back to form, the Ducks have someone who has experience in the playoffs.

Conditioning loans can't exceed 14 days. It would appear the Ducks expect him to spend more time than that in the AHL.

A conditioning loan is limited to two weeks and the player remains on the Active Roster - counting against the cap and the 23 man roster limit.
