Would Ottawa Consider Dealing Alfredsson?

Just a thought, as he is nearing the end of his career and they will blow that roster up shortly, along with the coaching staff.

Maybe deal him for a pick or a prospect that will help rebuild this franchise.

I suspect that much like the Devils and Brodeur, any move would be entirely up to the player's discretion.

Yep. And I myself would be pretty upset. I`d rather see the greatest Senator ever retire one than trade him for a pick or prospect or anything really

Thanks for the clear-up. I know he is under contract for a while, but I do think that team will be blown up at some point. Kovalev is gone, Spezza might get dealt, so who knows if Alfy will want out at some point.

Maybe it's a year early, but, if not this year, he'll be dealt to a contender next year to see if he can get that cup.

Spezza won't be dealt, the owner said he wants to build the team around him.

Would it make sense? maybe, Alffy is just getting older, but as a poster above stated, he seems like a lifer in Ottawa....

Just curious, what would his return yield?

young roster player + B level prospect?

if the sens were smart from a business end of things they should

but they are being loyal to alfy as afly has been loyal to them so out of respect for alfy they wont be trading him
which i am okay with, because you dont see many players play their entire career and retire with the same team anymore.

From a business standpoint it would be stupid unless there was a significant return.

Not happening. I think Alfredsson is going to be an Ottawa Senator for his entire career.

I'd rather see him as a Senator for life (but will be sad to see him w/o a cup)

the team stinks and is/needs to rebuild
if you can trade him for picks and or prospects why would it be stupid?

Yes.

Isn't it the GMs job to listen to trade offers and decide if they will help his team?

What if the Bolts call up and offer Stamkos and their 1st rounder?

What would be better for the Sens? Keeping DA or getting SS and a first rounder?

Why would the Bolts offer Stamkos for Alfredsson...

Alfie's return wouldn't be the greatest. Maybe a later 1st/early 2nd pick + a prospect/average player. (And that might be pushing it)

While trading him could help us in the future, the team is willing to sacrifice those potential assets to keep him here.

He if wants to stay in Ottawa or if he wants to play his last few years competing for the cup, it's entirely up to him.

Now if Millbury was still a GM... oh how Tavares would look good in a Sens uni.

Sens are rebuilding and I could see them dealing Alfredsson for a kings ransom honestly.

1st + 1st round prospect + 2nd maybe even. A playoff team would maybe roll the dice.

And this.

Alfie bleeds Senator colours, and he's shown that in spades, not only in the past (on and off the ice), but this year as well, by going down with the ship, as any good ship or hockey captain will tell you.

Praise Alfie.

Some Senators fans would probably listen to offers and move him if he wanted to go. Management on the other hand, and the only hand that matters, has said they have no intention in moving Alfie.

The question with an Alfie trade is not:

Would the Sens trade Alfie, but;

Would Alfie want to be traded.

Only reason Ottawa would deal Alfredsson is if its because he wants to be traded to a cup contender. After his contract is up, he could come back and resign with the Sens right before he retires.

I cant see the Sens moving him against his wishes, and the return would likely be a mid-round pick + a mid-level prospect.
