Buffalo Fans: Move Connolly?

With all the talk about Brad Richards being a UFA, another UFA is forgotten.

Tim Connolly (6'1, 190lbs) turns 30 in March. $4.5M cap hit. Drafted 5th overall in 1999. Post-lockout stats:

2006 - 63GP 16G 39A 55PTS
2007 - 2GP 1G 0A 1PT
2008 - 48GP 7G 33A 40PTS
2009 - 48GP 18G 29A 47PTS
2010 - 73GP 17G 48A 65PTS
2011 (pace) - 68GP 12G 25A 37PTS

Buffalo fans: You have Roy, Ennis and Hecht. Are you looking to re-sign TC? If not, what does it take to get him at the deadline?

Other fans: What would you give up for Connolly?

Leafs fans: Is Connolly the answer at center for Kessel while Kadri is developing?

Early to Mid 2nd round draft pick.
That will get a team Tim Connolly.

This has been the going rate for several seasons now.
With center's going down in Pitt and the need for a player such as Connolly on several other teams, I can see a team offering a late 1st rounder as well, if they feel Connolly is what they are looking for.

I think Sabres fans would burn HSBC Arena to the ground if Connolly was resigned. IMO, a decent prospect and maybe a decent pick would get you Connolly.

Timmy is getting the cold shoulder from most of Sabres Nation.
He shows up last season for 68 points and started to look like the Timmy we knew he could be.
Then, this season, he not only dissappears, he is actually a disaster on the ice for the team.
It's an odd situation, he needs a change of scenery for sure.
His injury problems look to be behind him now as he is only getting the minor dings that other players get during a regular season stretch.

But, it's his capabilities and talent level that another team is going to look at.
Connolly is talented to be sure, he is a playmaking Center, no doubt.

His time has come and gone. If they could get any variety of second rounder for him, color me happy. He was thrown under the bus after last season's playoff loss to the Bruins and he has not bounced back from being publically criticized by members of the front office. A fresh start may be just what he needs.

Is he strictly a center or has he also played some wing in his Buffalo career? I agree that he probably needs a change of scenery. I'd imagine they'll be quite a few teams interested in the guy.

I'd be shocked if someone paid a late 1st for Connolly.

He's played both wings at different times when they've tried working him back in or to get him or others going. It seems LW moreso than RW, but a bit of both. He's still mostly a center though.

I'd consider that; it would have to be contingent on the Sabres moving a RW -- position of strength -- for a center.

Ive hated this guy for years. He's been so inconsistent and is way to injury prone. Id deal him as soon as possible before he goes down with a major injury, which knowing buffalo's luck would happen just before the deadline.

A late first or early second round pick would be good but paired with a prospect. I'd really be hoping for a center prospect. Seeing that we wont get Richards in the off season if he even goes that far, "the con man" would be the second best center available, which means there wont be anything worth getting via FA.

I wouldn't be this deadline given the needs of some teams. But then again, it all comes down to just how badly a team wants Connolly. There are or will be multiple offers for him I am sure.

If Buffalo pays a 2nd rounder for Moore and Torres in the last 2 seasons, Connolly is worth the early to mid 2nd rounder at the least.

Deal. Love Dumont, the quiet casualty of the Briere-Drury summer.

Basically, the team that offers the most gets him. There's no reason he should be on this team next month.

Given Connolly's injury proneness I don't see any team offering a 1st, 2nd + prospect or pick I could see if there is a bidding war.

Teams entering the deadline looking for a boost for the playoff run normally aren't looking for a player beyond this season. They often covet UFA's.
This being the case, Connolly's injury history becomes a secondary issue, if it all.

There is no way TC is back. He can be had for a pick and a prospect at the most.

This. We want him out, and the cost is probably going to be a mid round 2nd, or a low first if one team gets desperate enough.

Probably going to be a 2nd if he does get moved though. And he should be.

Didn't he leave the year before?

Haven't seen him play in awhile but I'd love him back if he's anything like he used to be in Buffalo.

On a team where he can play as the 3rd line center and match up against other teams middling defenders, he can be pretty solid. I honestly believe it's just a change of scenery thing for him.

When you're as injury prone as Connolly then it definitely is an issue, even though it's a shorter than a full season Connolly could still very well get injured.

I'd move him for a 2nd. I don't see any team willing to give up a 1st for him. He and Arnott will likely be the two best C's available, and I see both getting a 2nd. Connolly is talented, but he's mercurial and he hasn't scored a goal in 22 consecutive playoff games. And this year he's a .5 pt/game player. With the way 1st rounders are coveted these days, I'd be shocked if any team was stupid enough to give that up for Timmah. I'd love it, but I'd be shocked.
