The problem is of course that it would be one of the more expensive bluelines in the league.
i dont think its so much that it is an unattractive place for UFAs, its that JR doesnt like getting UFAs. he is not really a deadline shopper. of course, the last time he really did was Weight and Recchi, and, well , that turned out alright hah. We have many players that come here and love it. Many who take discounts to stay after experiencing it. Its got a good team feel with a small media market so players arent pressured as much to exceed expectations like in other places. It definitely would be an expensive blue line, but with the way McBain has played all season, I doubt Komi makes the top 4 unless Pitkanen is traded (which would be a severe downgrade as mentioned before). And paying someone 5+ to play on the bottom pairing or at most be the #4 on teh blue line for the next 2+ years is horrible.

Why wouldn't the Canes just take back Commodore on reentry from Colombus. He's a more likeable pylon who already gets along with the team and would cost Carolina nothing? Why do Leaf fans think every other team wants to help the leafs get better? Repeat after me....they....don't....care.

Not to mention, Gleason has been better than Johnson every year since the trade was made until this year. And Johnson would NEVER have worn an A for the Canes. Also, the Canes already have a first pairing defenseman that likes to float and watch the other team score....why would they need two?

Is that based on the Kings steller playoff record? JJ have mind-blowing defensive lapses? Or the great team player with great parents that he has always exhibited? Gleason is the perfect example of what the Canes want in a player and JJ is virtually the exact opposite. The only bad part of the trade was that Rutherford picked him in the first place. They should've traded down and gotten Staal.

i would be absolutely shocked if a team took on komisareks contract. $4.5 x 4 more years is pretty harsh considering at best he is a 2nd pairing defenseman (#4).

its not like his is the difference between a team making a run at the cup and not.

I notice you don't mention that the GM on the other side is the one who traded 2 likely top 5 picks for a soft whiny perimeter floater. What's your point?

Gleason's a solid guy, and to call him crap just bring your credibility into question.

No one is going to touch Komi when he's got multiple years left @ $4.5M. Especially a team like CAR who operates on a budget.

Only way I'd take Komisarek is if Samsonov is going back the other way.

I actually think Komi would fit well in Carolina, his cap hit is a problem though.

To Car:
D Mike Komisarek

To Tor:
RW Sergei Samsonov (UFA at end of season)
2011 3rd Round Pick or prospect (TOR's choice)

Tim Gleason is no Phil Kessel. Please. You can find Tim Gleason's everywhere in the offseason.

id say i can deny it cause ive watched gleason since that trade round into a wonderful #3 d-man and leader on and off the ice. johnson is barely anything, and sure he is getting better, but the PERSON he is isnt worth having him on this team. regardless of his future play.

Donít expect much of a return for Komo. I think he holds somewhat of a negative value, I mean he plays under 15 mins of ice time per game, handles the puck like a grenade and carries a 4.5M$ cap hit annually for the next 3 seasons!
Maybe he can be traded for some kind of reclamation project ala Mike Commodore...
Can't see who the project would be for Carolina.

you are right. Kessel is closer to Johnson in that both whine like little babies about the slightest thing.

I dont think I would trade Gleason for any other "Gleason" at all. You obviously dont watch him very much to understand why.

only if we drop more salary in another deal, whether it is Cole or Pits, or someone else. But even then, i just dont think its worth it. a #4-#6 d-man for 2.25 more years at 4-6mil a year? jsut not JRs kind of deal, and for good reason.
