Lupul's contract goes one year longer than Beauchemins, eating that up probably is what cost Gardiner and the pick.

This trade is about Gardiner. Burke is just eating Lupul's contract to get a good prospect.

Good deal, but I'm surprised he moved Beauchemin so soon.

I figured the price would be even higher at the deadline.
Well it's a conditional pick I think and it's in 2013, but good deal for Beauch though. I heard that gardiner was stalling in his development though...
and it begins

This is a pretty bad trade by Brian Burke... problably worse than the Phaneuf trade.

Gardiner is a real nice prospect, but Lupul is not the answer to our problems. The only way to salvage this one is if Lupul gets flipped elsewhere for a centre or bigger winger.

Has Burke set the market for D men now? If so Phillips, Kaberle, and McCabe just got a little more pricey.
I love it!

Solid deal by Burke, but that's only for snagging Gardiner.

Lupul is a waste.

The centerpiece of the trade is the prospect IMO

This is a pretty decent trade for the Leafs, mainly because of Gardiner...but who knows what, if anything, he'll become. Lupul is pretty meh and the 4th is the 4th.

Beauchemin is competent enough and has been to the dance before, so I'm sure the Ducks know what they're getting. Not bad for both, really.
Exactly. It's a horribly inaccurate way to look at trades.

Agreed. But heck, I'm impressed Burke could swing a trade with Beauchemin to land Gardiner. Impressive.

To all the fans that said Beauch was crap and would never get anything Gardnier is a 1st rounder - 17th overall - with 30 points in 30 games in the NCAA - pretty good D prospect.

Lupul will help as well.

To all the fans in Anaheim that said 'if we wanted Beuach we would have just signed him' ....

Take a look at all those threads where you all ripped Toronto fans and their assesment.

Good on Leaf fans sure looks like you were right and other fans were low-balling.

I've already cooled off my initial reaction a bit because the Ducks really did need another top 4 d-man. Getting rid of Lupul's big contract helps, and Beauchemin is affordable for one more year at 3.8. Still not happy about giving up Gardiner beacuse I love his potential, but it was probably the price to pay to get rid of Lupul. I imagine lesser prospects could have been used had Murray been able to take Beauchemin's contract back without subtracting salary.

Considering Beauchemin has been pretty **** during his tenure in TO, props to Burke for getting something for him.
