Both have been brutal, but Giguere has at least won a cup (and a Conn Smythe).

From the Leafs' perspective, why give up a young goalie with lots of potential instead of an older goalie set to become a UFA?
Gustavsson is not that young and his potential has been hugely overrated. He is big and athletic but he's been in NA 2 years and still plays off balance, struggles with lateral movement and can't handle the puck. He makes a lot of saves on effort and athletic ability but it will only get you so far.

Personally I've always thought Gustavsson was overrated by the Leafs media/fans. It started the second the Leafs signed him. Sure enough he's 26 and playing in the AHL. Leafs have enough goalie prospects, they can afford to get rid of this guy who's a career backup at best if the return is decent.

And his nickname is ridiculous.

Ice time that is consistent and guaranteed. Only needs to stay there for a couple months, he's UFA. Gets a chance to prove that he is healthy enough to get a contract next season. Nobody would expect amazing numbers from a goalie playing on the Islanders.

I've got Evgeni on line 1, can you tell him what you just told us?

Reporters at Ricoh say Gustavsson is still at the rink and appears to be fine. But there were obviously some issues requiring attention.

Marlies coach Dallas Eakins says Jonas Gustavsson had a heart rate problem. Called it "precautionary."

So this means every Leaf except for 6 are going to be traded.

Super-huge-mega deal on the way folks.

Gustavsson isn't being traded. He just had another heart-related incident. Pulled for precautionary reason. Per Bobby Mac: http://twitter.com/#!/TSNBobMcKenzie

its probably nothing... felt a little flutter, and they didn't want to take any risks in a game they were dominating.

Gustavsson isn't sure if he'll go on the road with the Marlies tonight. Says he could have gone back in for the third period.

Even if its not Gustafsson, I think it makes sense to send one of Toronto's goalies to the Islanders. What about getting Robbie Schremp? Could add some offensive flair to the Leafs lineup... they definitely have enough burke type plugs in there to justify adding some actual talent! haha

Probably due to the fact that he's 24, on another continent, anything he does is magnified, he's suppose to be the future of a popular team and just got sent down put a little stress on him. Probably what cause the heart problems ( my guess, accelerated heart rate) He'll be fine. Not traded, or going to be traded, but my buddy told me he heard on the fan 590 that the leafs aren't done.

Never anticipated a Monster move, considering his frequent health issues.

His red carpet intro and overhyping now seems like a distant memory. He is quite average it seems.

As this has been confirmed to have been related to a heart issue, I'm shutting this thread down.
