I thought he was still on the Rangers

6th seems like too much for such a big bust.

Well at least he has played more NHL games than our current starter, I would've loved to had made a deal for someone with more upside, like Enroth or McIntyre (sp).

Ah yes do we remember just a couple short years ago when you would have been met with scorn if you suggested trading for montoya for 'only' a 1st round pick.

The guy did very well for the Coyotes when he got a trial run in 2009. He's been behind Lundqvist and Byzgalov in the two organizations he's been in, now he gets a chance to be a full-time NHL player for what looks to be at least the rest of this season.

That generally is why a lot of people thought whoever was going to make him a Top 15 pick was making a big mistake.

He was just waiting for Roloson to be traded DP, Lawson, and Poulin to be traded.

Of all the quality goaltenders with NHL experience in the minors, this is what Snow comes up with? What is in the water over on Long Island?

Hopefully Al with this chance will take advantage of it. It's a good situation for him and the Islanders.

Good to see

Things seem to be heating up (not sarcasm).

But who the eff is Al Montoya and what team was he on?

He turns 26 in a few days, not exactly old. Montoya might be getting to the point where NHL teams won't be interested in him on their AHL club, but it's not like most hockey players suddenly quit in their mid-20s if their NHL aspirations haven't panned out. A guy like Tim Thomas gives most goalies hope that they can put it together eventually.

Renney and Maloney team up for another fine pick. Seriously though, what's the point of Snowballs throwing away the 6th?

At one time you could have gotten Timmy Thomas for a 6th. Al will have himself a chance to play in the NHL now, lets judge him at end of season kay?
