no thank you, we dont need more crappy forwards, we need top 6 forwards
Hudler is not a crappy forward. He had a slow start to the season because he was ill-suited to his centerman (Modano). In the past 20 games, he has 14 points, and he was being centered by Filppula and Helm - not superstars by any stretch of the imagination.
Hudler may have his shortcomings, but he's also one of few wingers in the league that can put up 50+ points on the wing of a 3rd line centerman.
Of course, he's by no means untouchable, but Gustavsson is not the answer for Detroit. They want experience.
Just watching Gustavsson play, sure his stats aren't up to snuff. But I saw him stand on his head one game, make some unbelievable, just pure RAW SKILL saves. I couldn't believe how spot on his mechanics were that game.
I'd take it, strictly on risk-reward and teh fact that Hudler needs a bigger role and we can't give that to him now.
Darren Helm n a 2nd round pick for Cory Schneider?
May be in the offseason if its suited better for Detroit?
no way detroit would do that. we still believe in howard, and helm is young and very good. not saying that i wouldnt like to have schneider. cant get much better than helm when it comes to bottom 6 forwards.
Thats debatable actually. He really wouldn't be an upgrade on any of: Versteeg, Kessel. Lupul, Bozak, Grabovski, Kulemin, MacArthur...plus he's a friggin midget when as you can see, we don't have much size to begin with.
