The best part has already happened: you've been proven wrong by captain hindsight!

Seriously though looks like I was making fun of the generic Kaberle summer package and pretty sure the guy quoting me was on to it.

So...I rightfully give back the internet for others to dominate.

Leafs may have to add on some, but all 5 are marginally overpaid forwards, just as Beauchemin is probably overpaid for a 2-3 tweener.
Too bad he ended up as the salary dump in the deal

You dominated the entire board with that post, though. Even if it was intended as a joke.

No, if Lupul is on injured reserved for 40 or more games, we get 4th pick but if he isn't on ir that long then it's a 6th pick.

What is it fans of other teams always say that Leaf fans overvalue their players? Maybe you guys undervalue them.

Wow talk about a reach... are you guys going to bump this thread again if Lupul gets buried in the minors? I mean the guys missed more than half the season and is only on pace for 15 goals and 40 points, which wouldn't be too bad if he wasn't signed two more seasons with a $4.25M cap hit.

Personally when the season was young and this thread first created I thought Lupul could be a potential swap for Beauchemin, but that was because the season was young and there was the chance he could stay healthy and regain his old form. And he still might for Toronto which would make the deal a steal. But let's not fool ourselves, at this point he's a guy that would clear waivers, and I thought it was pretty obvious that Burke had to take him in the deal in order to get Anaheim to deal Gardiner. I mean I have nothing against the guy and I hope he succeeds (I have him on a stat-based sim league), but chances are Burke has to bury his contract in the minors a la Wade Redden for the two remaining years.

I'd be delighted if Lupol went to the minors. That means the Leafs eat his contract and it doesn't count against the cap.

I still don't think Lupol's salary justifies giving up Gardiner. Lupol next season only makes 450K more than Beauchemin. (yes, Lupol has 1 extra year left).

Beauchemin is a much better defenceman than Lupul is a forward.

Gardiner + Lupul should've been a real tough sell even if Beauchemin wasn't included. That's how bad his contract is for Toronto.

Here's the problem with burying Lupul....

Tagging room. You can only exceed the cap by 10% in the offseason. At a $61.4m cap, that means you can exceed by $6.1m. Toronto already has Finger buried at $3.5m for next year. 3.5 + 4.25 - 6.1 = $1.65m that Toronto wont be able to use until October 1st.

Yeah that's a good point, that myself and probably many others are overlooking. You'd either have to go into the regular season with Finger or Lupul on the roster, then demote and hope there's someone to add, or if you need to do it in the offseason simply buy out Fingers contract and lose some cap space ($1.15M or so?) for two seasons. I could be wrong but I don't think Finger was a Burke signing, so there's no harm to his ego there.
