Actually the day they drafted Blum was when Leipold announced that he was NOT selling to Baldy. Correct on Shirokov though I highly doubt that any Russian ever plays for the Preds again.

Richards would be great, but we'd have to move at least one of our big NTC contracts: Lewgand, Erat, Dumont -- they would be hard to move even without a NTC.

I wish we would've picked up Frolik, but I'm guessing we wouldn't have had a shot. Tallon probably had his eye on his old Hawks draft pick the whole time.

10M of our capspace is taken by Jack Daniels, so we can only work with 49 mil...

Well, Grebs was healthy when he got here, and scored right away, which was why we picked him up. Hard to predict catching a puck in the privates. I still liked that move. But you are correct, haven't had much success with deadline moves.

I wanted him back for this year, but word is he didn't offer nearly a big enough discount. I think our powerplay would be better though (aka stink less) with Grebeshkov on the team.

The only decent move we've made that I can remember was boyd. We essentially traded our 4th rounder for Sergei Kostitsyn through a chain of trades. (yeah, Ellis was in there too, but we all knew he was a goner.

Witt - Yeah that sucked
Forsberg - Didn't quite live up to expectations, but I'd do that deal again in a heartbeat
Grebeshkov - Random bad luck injury. He was great when he was healthy.

That being said, I don't see us making a big splash this deadline. There are just not enough sellers or options out there. Maybe something minor like Reasoner.

How about Hlavac for a 7th rounder? That ended up being the steal of the deadline.

I liked Grebs, too. However, unless the guy was gonna' sign for whatever we're paying SOB not sure how we'd fit him in here, and really, as much as I'd like to have Grebs, I wouldn't want to run our D out there without SOB. Guy pairs great with KK on the PK and has given us the ability to let Franson play and not worry near as much about his D or his shaky puck handling (which has been WAY improved since the AS break I'm happy to note).

Now, Grebs instead of Cube? Dang, we'd not even notice we got no scoring up front!

That one is often overlooked; and if we weren't overloaded with tweaner wings already I'd suspect that's the deal we'd get this year.

We all see the need for a center; I'm would imagine that idea is not a revelation to Poile. But.... we know the salary situation, and I believe that Poile and Trotz believe this team is good enough to make noise in the POs. Sure, we lay the occasional stinker like EDM. But, raise your hand if you predicted home-and-home against the deadthings? We kept complaining about lack of scoring last year but the reality was as a team we scored plenty - even with a miserably inept PP.

It'd be easier with another center, and I feel like Poile will grab one if he can do it for a draft pick and no more than Blum. But easier? - it's not the Preds way!

Poile still has NJ's 2nd.

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume the Preds have shut Lombardi down for the season. Wild guess

Oh well, welcome Fisher

Sure we can. Nashville could have taken on an annual salary of over $7 million this season.

Lots of posts showing that.

Still, I think Poile is far from finished. I bet he goes after a D-man if he thinks the Cube injury is serious.

We have all those D prospects and all these roster players. We have to make a move. I dont think Poile is done at all. He wanted to help the team now, not wait till deadline day. I expect another move for a winger and maybe a solid 3rd pairing d man.

OK, Fisher it is. I still think 1 and hopefully 2 is to much.
What is next? D to Edm?

this is probably mentioned in the other thread but the thing about fisher is he is signed for two more years but a a declining rate. 4 mil next year and 3 mil in 12-13.

will definitely help in fitting him in with Suter and Webers upgrades.

Gotta figure this means no Goc next year. Which was probably going to be true regardles since he seems to be playing himself into a nice salary bump
