I'm excited, although we overpaid IMO. Would have rather gave them our 2nd but we did need a center and he was probably the best one available.... and we get him for 2 years instead of just a rental.

An interesting problem to have if Lombardi comes back. Still think if he doesn't Poile sends Lombardi and some decent but not top-level propect to one of the "rich" teams that has an awful contract they need to unload - at least that way we get something out of the money and they stick Lombardi on LTIR.

So, if he comes back, it doesn't really make sense to sign both Goc and Orly unless you are gonna' move 1 to a wing. Goc and Leggy could both center defensively strong and offensively capable lines; don't know Fisher well enough, but it sounds like he's in that mold, as well. The possibilities are endless for Trotz style hockey.

My guess, if Lombardi is anywhere close to healthy whichever of Orly or Goc is cheaper stays and the other goes, with a lean toward favoring Goc.

If I could just "wish" an outcome for next year outta' all this would be to sign Goc and Orly, then let Lombardi center Leggy and Wilson, leave the Goc line as is (assuming we sign SK) and let Fisher center Horny and Dumont, giving Orly Toots/Smitty/Halischuck.

seems like an overpayment to me. I'd have been ok with a 2nd and conditional, but a 1st?

Aside from listing him as a defenceman in the "What you need to know" section, pretty informative.

Maybe a little overpayment

Maybe a little, but at this time of year, the selling teams have the upper hand because of injuries to the contending teams and less worry about salary cap issues. We probably could have got a similar player for what you suggest between seasons when teams are trying hard to get under the cap, but not now. Overall, This is a reasonable market value trade that both teams benefit from.
Good for the Sens cause they really need to rebuild and basically start over, and good for us because the type of player he is seems to fit our team concept to perfection.

It's not really an overpayment considering Fisher's talent, a sellers market and the fact he isn't a rental. This likely signals the end of Goc in Nashville as he will likely be seeking a decent sized raise unless we can unload Dumont or Lombardi's contract.

I also was hoping for a talented offensive player like Penner or Hemsky BUT down the middle the rest of the year we will have:

Legwand
Fisher
Goc
Smithson/Spaling

I can't think of a better group of centers defensively in the league. Leggy/Fisher/Goc are all good two way centers. Combine that with our D and Pekka. We are going to be a nightmare to play against as far as scoring goals goes; in theory at least.

Fisher is not a rental thus the 1st.

Second, the draft is supposedly weak thus the pick is not as high valued.

Third, NSH has NJ's 2nd which is 31-35 thus it's close to a 1st.

Fourth, The guy fills a much needed role and I think the net move will be to trade Ward.

Fifth, the cash is there, IF the cap and rev. sharing goes up 3 million then Nashville will make a choice between Goc and O'Reilly. ORLY is a RFA and Goc might go if he believes he can get a lot in UFA land.

Fisher's a better player than he's shown so far this season. He should fit in really well.

Good luck in the playoffs, guys.

and if it proves to make us a better team, which I think it does, it shows Weber and Suter a commitment to being a threat which I think would be the biggest hindrance in getting them to sign. I'm excited over the potential and after today's crappy-ness, I'm glad to be excited.

Why would you root against them? If you like Fisher, wouldn't you want to see him do well? Also, the conditional pick gets better the further the Preds go. Weird.

-----------------

I'm more concerned about the effects on the future. Sure, Sully and Goc come off the books next year, but that basically makes adding Fisher a wash. We still have need to give Weber a raise.

We desperately need to get out of that Dumont deal. And Lombari is killing us too. For $7.5 million (Dumont and Lombardi), we've gotten 9 goals. That is killing us.

Your new best player. When he is on, he is unbelievable. You will be thanking your GM for this move come playoff time. Congratulations. You got a great deal.

As a partial leaf fan, I couldn't hate the senators more, but the play I respected the most on that team was Mike Fisher. Great person, and hard work ethic. Comes to the rink everyday and works his ass off. Great addition to a weak position of ours, and all the best the the Fisher family aswell.

GOOD MOVE!

sixth: Mike will bring in another million bucks in revenue through ticket sales and merch by himself. Even without the underwood factor.

Mike is one of the top community guys in the NHL. Not money, but his presence at every possible event. The type of game he plays on the ice makes him very popular with the diehards as well.

right now the preds pick 20th. with improved play down the stretch that cud be ... what 25th? the 25th pick in a lean year isn't that much to trade. true, one never knows with draft picks; dark horses can shine and studs can fade.

weber has said he wants to stay in nashville so he will probably take a hometown discount.

fisher's attitude can steal games and affect the room and especially young players coming up. good deal for preds.

now catch those wings....27 games to make up five points. IT CAN BE DONE!!!!

Perfect Playoff Player. Which is the reason why we got him. hopefully we can get a decent scorer at the deadline cause i dont think poile is done. and then i think we can make a good run.
