Poile must've thought there wasn't much drop off in talent between where our first round pick is going to be and the Devils second.
getting in late on this thread but thats what i think Poile was thinking... with some good play the rest of the season we would likely be looking a the #20 pick or higher and with us having a pick somewhere between 31 and 35 he could let this one go.
Why would you root against them? If you like Fisher, wouldn't you want to see him do well? Also, the conditional pick gets better the further the Preds go. Weird.
The more important pick gets better for the Sens the worse the Preds do.
This is a great off-ice move. Fisher will fit right in with the Nashville community.
As an on-ice move, it's really frustrating to me because we STILL have no consistent offensive threats up the middle. The inability of our centers to produce on a regular basis severely hurts our offensive capabilities. I recognize that this is a weak draft year, but that doesn't mean we should deal a first for a guy with 24 points when we have other needs; I also recognize that we have specific demands of our centers, but without a major offensive threat at center, we're not getting out of the first round. Fisher is not an awful pickup, but he doesn't fill what I would consider our biggest need.
I don't think we're done, but if there's one thing I've learned from life, it's that hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Reason: Didn't make any friggin' sense.

I really hope we're not done up front with this move, because unless Rinne turns into a 4x6 brick wall, there's still no way this team gets out of the first round with the forwards we have now, or the defensemen we have now, for that matter.
I suspect the thinking is that while we dont have one dynamic scorer, we will now roll at least 3 lines with significant scoring potential... sort of a 'you cant stop them all" mentality
and soon having belak, tootoo, and svatos plus the 7 dmen plus the 2 goalies means we sit at 24. at minimum one has to go. spaling the only one who doesn't have to clear waivers unless his status changed
Halischuk and Spaling can go back to Milwaukee but frankly I think Ward/Tootoo are on the Block. 90K is left under the mid-point and the mid-point is determined by the cash spent not cap number.
Lombardi and O'Reilly are done for the year in my mind and the only two players who are coming back are Tootoo and Svatos.
I joked about Ward going to Atlanta for a pick. Atlanta needs PK and defense help.

Ward/Blum for ATL's 1st +?
IMO, Tootoo won't be dealt. His PR value is too high here to send him away for spare parts. Personally, I think Ward, Smithson, and Svatos (if eligible?) are all in danger of being shipped out

by the time everyone is back couldn't you waive Belak? obviously not to save money, but just to get down to 23. we'll mostly be passed the time on the schedule you run out your fighters and thugs, and we'll have Toots for all but the true heavyweights. you don't get Toots back then we're fine anyway.
Fisher was the only guy with guts and heart from Ottawa. His low offensive numbers this year were a result of the team tanking. He will be a big addition - knock the Dead Things out of the playoffs!

I was going to say Bogosian since he apparently wants out, but after seeing his cap hit... Yeesh.
This is the move I was hoping we didn't make. Trading a pick for Mike freakin' Fisher... so now we have what amounts to another Legwand who isn't quite as good defensively, but who plays more physical. I love Leggy, but we needed offensive. Not another two-way, Trotz-style player. At least it's conditional, but based on how we perform in the play offs. WHY POILE? WHYYYY?!

Lets wait till after the deadline. If we dont have a high offensive winger I will agree to you to an extent. But if Poile gets one of those players ex. Hemsky. He will look like a genius and this team will be a force
