Cyclones get CPZ from Wheeling

http://www.1835movement.com/PensNation/?p=462 Casey Pierro-Zabotel for Sam D'Agostino and Chris Minella

Dont know much about him. Put up good numbers in the WHL and is doing pretty good in the ECHL. Only 22 years old. Maybe could be a diamond in the ruff from Poiles eyes.
Dont know if you saw the Pens fans reaction, but it was a unanimous "good riddance". Appearently he got in some serious trouble with management. Hopefully SK 2.0, but I doubt it.

Poile made a move for Dan Gendur too. I wonder if he's trying to help Cincy win the Kelly Cup?

To paraphrase the 40 Year Old Virgin, CPZ should keep his ho on a leash. Hey, hey... ***** is running wild, man.

He's going for the triple whammy, Kelly, Calder, Stanley.

Has that ever happened before?

Why not, we got the Calder Cup a few years back. Lets get the Kelly and Stanley!

Quick story about CPZ. (Well his wife actually)

His significant other posted on Twitter about how bad the organization and that she felt her husband should have been called up to the AHL instead of two other guys. Needless to say, it was only a matter of time before he was playing somewhere else.

Thats pretty much true haha
Those Jokinen gifs really do brighten me up after a tough loss. One of the great things about HF boards

Say whhaaaaat!?

Hope I learn something more positive about him soon, otherwise I'm thoroughly confused about this deal.

Washington got two out of three some seasons ago. Guess which ones.

As for CPZ, he has some potential at least as a minor leaguer. Good size and good passing ability. He just lacks the skating and energy to create much on his own. I doubt he ever seens the NHL but with a fresh start and a better attitude he could make it to Milwaukee.

When the Pens drafted him 80th overall in 2007 he had put up big numbers in Junior A and was supposed to take the NCAA route with Michigan Tech. But he flunked his entry exam twice so eventually he moved to major junior and put up very good stats for Vancouver. The Giants were a great team and he was playing with Evander Kane, though. He was signed to an entry-level contract (has 1 season left after the current one) but didn't look good in his first camp and was assigned to Wheeling. From what his coach said he didn't take that well and his first pro season was a big disappointment.

This past fall after another mediocre camp he ended up with the Nailers again. And while he was now playing better and working to become more of a two-way player, two rookies (Street and Petersen) quickly overtook him on the depth chart and when they were called up to the AHL his wife (he got married at 20, has a kid too) complained on twitter about the organization not giving him chances. Apparently that was the last straw for the Penguins.

Gendur is playing in the CHL with Rio Grande Valley.

This move is similar to when the Habs picked up Olivier Latendresse a few years ago and put him with the Cyclones. The players that got traded for him aren't really all that great, so this is a move to try and get Cincinnati back into the playoffs. Their goaltending sure won't do it.

FWIW, this was an ECHL trade. CPZ is still a member of the Penguins organization and the players going to Wheeling were signed to ECHL contracts only. Poile had nothing to do with this move.

I've updated the title to reflect this...

Gendur has actually been a decent 3rd/4th line guy for Milwaukee when needed. A pleasant surprise for a guy from the CHL.
